As I have gotten older, bags have become more interesting, as my lifestyle, and consequently clothing and shoes have become simpler.
I can go months without thinking about bags, but then I fall down the rabbit hole again.
Creating a "brief" for what I want in a bag helps the decision process and the probability that I will love it. I have a "missions statement" for that next bag, and a set of criteria and a mental image of it. But that doesn't always prevent me from becoming attracted to something different. I am embarrassingly suggestible, despite my best laid plans
I always feel guilty about buying a bag because at this point I never really "need" it. So I almost always sell one or two to make myself feel better.
Handles are the first thing to soften, show wear and look awful. Rolled handles are much more durable than strap handles so I tend to look for those. (I have a couple of Tod's D bags and Mulberry Bayswaters but broke my rule and bought a Cabas Mezzo)
I think my taste won't change, but it will, and no bag will be perfect or last forever.
