Mine is light yellow but it depends on the light whether it actually appears yellow. Before this I had a white ice cube but I was looking for more warmth!
Specs: vs1, 5.30 carat, U-V colour.

Hello, Hokaplan, I feel the appearance of color in a diamond is subjective to the eye of the beholder. However, color grading does affect the cost of a diamond, for sure, but if a stone is very very well cut ( and I'm talking of the round brilliant cut ) it will appear whiter as more light will be returned to the eye.

*And remember, color grading in round brilliants is done from the back. We, as consumers view color from the top.*

For example, I have two diamonds. One is an E color grade and is an ideal cut Lazare Kaplan.

The other is an I color grade and is a Hearts on Fire branded stone.

Although the E graded Kaplan is the higher color grade, it does not appear as white as the I graded Hearts on Fire when I hold both stones side by side.

The Kaplan is a beautiful stone, certainly, and it's my favorite, however, the lower color I graded Hearts on Fire looks whiter when held next to the Kaplan, side by side.

I would have never believed it had I not owned both stones. For years, in fact over 100 years, Lazare Kaplan was thought by many to be the industry standard for ideal cutting and is still highly respected.

At the end of the day color importance depends on you. If you like the way your stone looks, then, keep it. Sparkly and bright is pretty desirable in diamonds and yours sounds lovely.

You will pay more for a whiter color graded stone, but, the appearance of color has so much to do with how well it is cut.
great post. This is what we have been finding, I have been looking for stones a lot lately. Its all about the cut. I am going down in color for the best cut. I also want a round brilliant. I have seen some J colored stones that were Ideal cut and they looked bright and white next to lesser quality E colored stones. Also remember some people like a little warmth. I dont want it to look fake so some warmth is pretty. Cut cut cut

Also....keep in mind, if you have an H or higher (higher as in I, J, K, etc.) that a diamond that has fluorescence will appear whiter face up than a diamond without fluoro in the same color range.

IMO, medium and even sometimes strong fluoro on the right diamond is a GOOD thing!

ITA with others, CUT is important above ALL the other C's. A well cut/Ideal "I" will outshine and color and poorly cut "E" any day of the week.

Mine's an F VVS2 set in yellow gold and it doesn't pick up any yellow hues at all. I'm thinking that if it were anything less than F, it would easily pick up yellow from the yellow gold though.

I have had several H's in a row. I am going to NYC in a month though to look at other options. This stone is not growing on me yet, it seems "darker" overall, compared to the original stone it replaced. I have no idea what I will be ending up with. I won't go below an I and I don't really see a need for me to go over a G personally. I don't feel like the price premium is worth it to me!
