Bags from places like TJ Maxx. Seriously. I live in one of the wealthiest areas of the US and lots of wealthy people pride themselves on not spending much money, at least not on outwardly visible things.

There was an excellent article in The New Yorker about in the summer, I think. I'll try to find it when I'm at my desk. I believe it was written by Allison Gregory.
Hi all!
I just joined PF so I could ask for your opinions. I can't start my own thread yet but this will do.
I own a lot of bags, collected throughout the years. I have lots of Chanel, Gucci, LV and some Balenciaga. As I read through this thread, I seriously want to purge all my collection (except for my Chanel caviar 2.55) and buy a couple of really good bags that doesn't scream label only quality, but still beautiful of course.
For my first bag, I'm eyeing this Delvaux on Etsy. The price might seem higher for Etsy but compared to Barneys prices, this is definitely cheap. I think the color is perfect, not too bright not too dark. And it looks like it's in mint condition.

What do you guys think?
Beautiful! Go girl!Kelsey - I also have that Delvaux on my list! HA. If you don't snap it up I just might...
along with every other Delvaux in that shop bc oh my god, they're amazing.
Being from New England, and living in an area where there is a lot of old money (North Shore of Boston) I've met some wealthy people in my time. At least around these parts, though, the old money types practice stealth wealth in a different way -- they're cheap! So I see loads of very affluent women who carry Coach or Longchamps or even (shudders) LL Bean totes. There are a lot of women here who look down at ostentatiousness, even if they can afford it. It's definitely an old money thing though -- I see plenty of LVs and lately, Goyards in certain towns, as well.
This is exactly how I view "stealth wealth". Thanks for echoing what I was in my mind.Just discovered and fell in love with Longchamp. At this point for me I am loving carrying it more right now than even my LV or Mulberry. (Still heart my Mulberry though).Longchamp has lovely pieces for the price point.
Bottega Veneta, non Guccissima Gucci, Ferragamo, Bally, some Hermes (surprisingly, not Birkin or Kelly) and I would add Italian made leather bags that are not listed on our forum but ones that can only be bought abroad.
