What bags do you consider to be "stealth wealth"?

For me personally, it would have to be my Chanel black Cerf Tote. This bag has become my everyday work bag. I work with mostly men who have no clue or interest in fashion, and even the women that I work with don't seem to care that much about it. I think the Cerf Tote is very classic looking, but it's not as iconic as the Chanel Classic Flap, LV Mono, Hermes Birkin, etc.. I don't think anyone of these people that I work with would think that it would cost close to $2k.

What do you mean by stealth wealth? Because Bottega is priced in the same range as a lot of other designer brands.

If you mean a bag that shows you have lots of money then I would say Hermes.

Bottega Veneta, some YSL

There's no way that the Birkin and Kelly bags are stealth wealth.. their shapes are as recognizable as the LV monogram.
i think i disagree with that. MOST people could pick out a monogram lv fairly easily.
but i would be hard pressed to find people who aren't "in the know" about bags to identify a birkin among a lineup of similar bags.
i just did this with my mom. god knows she's seen pics of a birkin (as a hinthint graduation gift, lol) and i asked her to look at a few bags and pick it out. she couldn't.
but maybe it's where we live? i think location has a lot to do with it. and i dont think the typical upper middle class person could identify a birkin, but i would bet they could with lv.
or something like that.

if hermes screams rich and status it wouldn't be stealth wealth right? and while i love bbags, i think that they are too edgy for that? maybe im thinking in classics? maybe stealth wealth is the wrong terminology for this?

I think it depends what you mean in terms of stealth: is a bag "subtle" due to lack of obvious logos rather than cost and what demographic you are talking about? The lay person would recognize LV more(esp. mono) even if they are not exactly sure what it is. If you're talking about TPF members, well, people are so informed on this board that even bags like BV are recognizable(esp with the woven leather) and known to be expensive so would that necessarily be stealth wealth? I think especially with TPF members an excellent quality bag that is not easily recognizable by brand(i.e. obscure designer) would fit the definition of stealth better.

Hermes is well known and copied - I think Bottega Veneta is the epitome of old money which translates to finest quality and design with no need to broadcast.

I think it's tough for people on here to say, since we all know what ALL the expensive bags look like! None of the ones mentioned so far is "stealthy" to me.

Yes, but the intention is not to try to fool a fashion/luxury goods expert, or even another wealthy person.

The intention of someone practicing stealth wealth, is to go unnoticed by the vast majority of the population; particularly the less wealthy.

So, you can still carry your designer bags and wear your fine jewellery; as long as most people aren't aware that you're not carrying a no name bag and wearing costume jewellery. ;)

But if nobody could recognise it, wouldn't that be invisible wealth, not stealth wealth? :shrugs:

Like the stealth tank, stealth wealth items are allowed to be visible to one's own side (in this case, other wealthy individuals)! LOL!!!

Yes, I could see how that would be invisible wealth too. If the definition of stealth is how "obvious" rather than how much more expensive that is then I could see how BV/Hermes would fit. A Hermes croc bag with bling-bling diamonds, maybe not. :p I'm sure there are people out there who love the thrill of having a great bag/item that is subtle in appearance that no one else recognizes including the wealthy but that others recognize that it is high quality. Stealth and invisible? Maybe, LOL. Either way, people should buy what they love. I'd rather see someone buy a bag that is more "showy" because the person loves the actual bag versus someone who buys a stealth bag not because they love it but to seem more subtle. Follow your passions.
