What 5 handbags should every woman own?

For me, top 5 bags a women should own are:
1. A classic Chanel 2.55 in black or red. I'm liking the Flap one better than the Reissue.
2. An office bag ala Hermes Birkin (or something a bit more pocket friendly--- Mulberry Bayswater). I would like it in tan colour.
3. A nice casual bag. Slouchy and fun. I'm currently eyeing Marc by Marc Jacobs Petal to the Metal Sasha hobo. Or else Coach Audrey bag.
4. A Longchamp Le Pliage tote bag in either black or Garance because the brown leather straps just pop beautifully in those colours in my opinion.
5. A clutch bag. Something that will work from day to evening. I'm loving the Tory Burch Snakeskin embossed clutch and Balenciaga's Giant Envelop clutches!
:D

I think that every woman should own a bag that makes her feel special.

For me personally, LV, Balenciagia, Hermes, Chanel, Dior and many other designers don't suit me. I would much rather carry something unique and individual rather than follow the crowds and wear a bag that is emblazoned with a brands logo and can be seen on other woman at the same time.

Sorry to go off topic for a second... but just for interest's sake, what bags do you carry, and where do you find them?

Hi, I buy from small independant boutiques that specialize in european designers such as Ripani, Roberta Gandolfi and Abaco.

I also buy somethings from etsy.

I am not into paying alot of money for a bag just because of the brands name behind it.

I always like to see articles on bags in magazines and a lot of them consider Hermes and LV the classic designers. I have a friend with a Birkin and while I admire the design, it seems like a pain in the neck to carry and to get stuff out of--even Jane Birkin said she couldn't handle it, it was too bulky and heavy!

.

I believe the hype about it being difficult to get things out of the birkin is pretty heavily exaggerated.

1) Large bag, able to take abuse, for rainy days and vacations. Preferably straw, patent, canvas.
2) Every day bag - shoulder or hobo - big enough for everyday needs. Leather, discrete.
3) Day/Night bag - a bit more structured than the every day bag - can double as a clutch if running late. Alternatively, wallet which can double as bag (WOC, ect.)
4) Evening bag - completely impractical and insanely beautiful. Something that makes you happy.
5) A bag from 2, 3 or 4 in a contrasting colour and or style. (silver evening bag and black or hobo and crossbody)

There are ones that I like from experience but I don't really like the "everyone MUST have 'VWXY and Z'" menu

So I will write types rather than brand names and models.

1 Leather tote (useful for travel as well as shopping)
2 Hobo (so nice with casual)
3 Framed top handle (with optional shoulder strap) for when only smart will do
4 Boston (I just love round bags plus can be used as a gym bag)
5 Brief case (type, does not have to be rigid) papers should be uncreased for work

I can't believe I wrote mine without looking at yours VL . It was only once I posted I saw how similar :ghi5:

I can't believe I didn't write clutch. Maybe because i had a hard time with my Delvaux Hannelore last Sat. Large wallet can double as a clutch too :p
