1. hermes birkin or kelly - classic colour - rouge, black, gold?
2 louis vuitton speedy or neverfull
3. bottega veneta = cabas?
4. belen Echandia WTM (versatile and lovely leather choice)
5. Mulberry Roxanne

1. nice evening bag/clutch for going out
2. big organised tote for work that fits your laptop
3. crossbody bag to keep your hands free when shopping
4. classic doctors/speedy style handbag that can be dressed up or down
5. lightweight bag for when traveling

For me, they are:

1. Hermes Birkin or Kelly
2. Balenciaga Work or City (for everyday)
3. Longchamp Le Pliage (for travel, for rainy days and for 'protecting' your 'nicer' bags:p)
4. Chanel classic flap (for fancy dinners, weddings, events, etc.)
5. LV Pegase (for travel)

whatever 5 turn her on!!

I think it totally depends on your lifestyle!

Some people travel often, some go out at night a lot.
Some people "live" in jeans.
etc.

If I had to say, I'd say:

1. A tote, (casual, and not high-maintenance) - good for travel, long days, or shopping, all purpose.
2. A small bag for the evening or dressy events, like dressier weddings etc.
3. If you do work, something that can be worn to your work (based on style of clothes you work in) and not too utterly trendy, unless you want to replace it often
4. A smaller purse that can be used in the daytime if you want to go lighter or carry less stuff/ could be a messenger style
5. A fun bag or one that turns you on! Or something for every day, but doesn't necessarily have to go to work with you.

Designers and prices depend on your style.
You could get these 5 purses anywhere, depending on your budget and fashion style - from anywhere from Target, to Hermes or Chanel, and all inbetween.

Well I'd say which 5 bags work for *this* woman.

1. A Chanel half moon WOC to function both as an evening bag, and a crossbody passport/money/tickets bag for travelling.

2. A Balenciaga in Storm color for an 'everyday casual' bag, either Part Time/GPT or City/Giant City. Most beautiful color ever.

3. A black Chanel Flap for an 'everyday dressy' bag, or to dress up jeans and heels.

4. A bag with an open top and a long enough handle that you can reach into while it's on your arm...my Dream Bag would be the Chanel shopper tote but the Kooba Chase I ordered will work. This bag should be black, because even though I tend to stick to wearing the same colors (white/black/grey/light pink/denim) there might be something else in there that the Bal didn't match that was too casual for the Chanel.

5. A small clutch or wristlet that you can carry at all times in your larger bags, in case you end up going out to a club or something and you want to leave your big heavy bag in the trunk.

Obviously this doesn't include things like gym bags or travel carry on bags or anything like that, just handbags. But that would be my list.

For me the definitive list is:-

1) A work bag that is not too big but still roomy enough for a small umbrella, wallet, company pass, keys and other randoms. Has to look stylish but business like, preferably in black leather (still looking for one so suggestions are appreciated! :smile1: )

2) An oversized tote bag in tan leather - goes with everything. Mine is one I bought in HK on holiday, think it's a local brand but so fab

3) A biggish weekend/ daytime going out bag - Balenciaga City in Storm for me

4) A dressier going out bag - for me this is the Chanel jumbo classic flap in caviar or a trusty Prada shoulder bag

5) A cute cross body bag for really casual occasions - I use the Marc by Marc Jacobs Petal to the Metal pochette in black

6) An evening clutch - I really love Alexander McQueen skull knuckle duster clutch, don't have one though

7) A carry-on-the-plane bag that can fit loads - mine is Herve Chapelier in camouflage print, matches everything!

8) A beach bag - I get a new one every summer. Or I just use the freebies from the mags lol!

So that's 3 more than 5 but all essential to me.

Bags that I would love to have are:-

1) Hermes birkin - this can go in category 4 above - dressier going out bag

2) A little Chanel bag for those "have to dress up but not that much" occasions, to supplement the evening clutch. But I don't want a WOC and don't like any of their pochettes at the mo so given I don't even know what I want, it's a bit hard trying to get this lol.

This is an interesting idea. It's hard to make it general enough for everyone's needs, but here's my stab at it. I have just four:

1) A hands-free bag of some kind for traveling/shopping (whether that's a shoulder bag, crossbody or just slung over one arm)
2) An evening bag (however you may define that)
3) A nice bag that can withstand bad weather but doesn't compromise taste/style/quality
4) A bag that the owner still can't believe they're lucky enough to own (whether it's a HG bag, amazing quality, amazing leather, etc.)

I guess this is more of a description of four situations a women's handbag collection should cover. Obviously one bag might fill more than one of these functions.
