OK, 5 pairs of shoes, 2 sprays each, 1 1/2 bottles of Meltonian later and they're drying and I think I may be a bit high. They weren't kidding when they said well-ventilated space. :D

LMFAO...Guess I forgot that very important part, huh? I do mine in my masterbath that closes off from the rest of the bath and has a ventilator fan. Come to think of it, I do get a little woosy when I do several pairs at once. Well, that would certainly explain some things. LOL
So, let's hear the results, Schnauzer.
I let my friend have my RB Jennys and just got a new pair in the mail this morning so I'm going to do them before I leave the house.

Oh, Heavens. I thought I was spending a lot at $9.99 at my cobbler. Now getting them on Amazon and getting them sent to me on a regular schedule, certainly saves money.

You shouldn't be spending more than I was at the cobbler. Send PhiPhi a PM. She buys it in Canada. She'll know where to get it cheap.

Thank you Natalie:hugs:

Ok guys...I did the Melatonian and have some before and after pics to show. I think it works great!! There's no color change in the shoe.

Before...

After spraying... Mind you it is darker because it's still wet.

Side by side comparison with the other shoe that I DID NOT spray yet (left shoe = sprayed, right shoe = not sprayed)...

As you can see, there is no color change. I also did not cover the insole of the shoe because the spray also protects leather...which is what the insole is made of. HTH!!!

Nice job Candy. Those are gorgoeous, BTW. And, yes, you are right about not covering the insole. I don't either. I have found that it keeps the insoles cleaner as well. Obviously, living in FL, I wear all of my shoes barefooted and by spraying the inside as well (not on purpose, necessarily) when my feet get wet it keeps them from stretching out of shape and it keeps the inside from getting icky from barefeet. I like to try to keep the insides of my shoes clean.

Nat?? I have a question for you..again. lol I was wondering if you could take a look at my Jennys and tell me if you find it odd that the heel has some darker scales..I don't know what to make of it.

 it really is a strong smell isn't it?! I did it in a separate room in my house and had to open all the windows, it was really bad.
next item I spray I'm doing it outside.

I let my friend have my RB Jennys and just got a new pair in the mail this morning so I'm going to do them before I leave the house.

The results (drum roll please!) are that they're PERFECT!!! :yahoo: I wish I would've taken before/after pictures but it was late and I was lazy. I did the following pairs:

- Brian Atwood "Nikki" Suede Booties (perfect color afterwards; the way the nap lies seems to be better AFTER treatment than before. REALLY impressed!),

- CL Miss Clichy calf-hair pumps (I brushed the hair out before and after and although I honestly see no change - I SEE NO CHANGE! Looks exactly the same before/after.)

- CL exotics: Mimosa Python and Pink Watersnake (the scales seem to be laying down flatter on both. The watersnake looks brighter than before which in my opinion looks better. I don't have a facebrush to brush the scales but I used a light sponge to gently wipe them down. I'll get a brush before doing it to the Daffodils. As far as the Mimosas, the seller had taken really good care of them so they were perfect to begin with.)

and another pair of suede thigh-high boots from Adrienne Vittadini. These were my trial pair as the suede is bright red and they're a few years old and look better then they did before I sprayed. My verdict: AWESOME!!! :yahoo:

...As far as the fumes, let's just say I overslept my alarm today. :p DEFINITELY doing the next batch outside. I live in a condo (converted warehouse) so I did these on a staircase that is behind a heavy door... and I could still smell them in the hallway while I was letting them dry. ;)

Hi guys!
I went to the official cobbler of CL (minuit moins sept) for my Lanvin beige watersnake flats and they said that in addition to waterproofing you should moisturize them using a very small drop of mink oil. Once that dries you can spray a waterproofing spray (they sell one). I bought both for 20 €. They said you can use it on any exotics (reptile included). I'm not a CL addict but just wanted to reassure you that your waterproofing technique is right on :-)

I'm not going to argue with the official anything of Louboutin (and risk getting a beat down later? no thanks!) but I've always heard "people" (SAs at Chanel & Saks, etc.,) say NOT to use mink oil on any exotics because it's too oily...

Also, I've received the strange but miraculous advice to put python in the fridge over night -- works really well on uncurling scales. Seeing your shoes/bag in perfect condition the next day is ALMOST as fun as seeing the reaction of your significant other when he discovers them the next day :D

No, honey, they're fine. Be glad that you don't have spots missing dye all together. When you're dealing with reptile skin and it is dyed with vegetable dye, often, there are spots that the dye doesn't take at all. I have pictures of shoes of mine where there were huge white spots. In fact, my RB ADs have some white spots.
Fortunately, my cobbler uses vegetable dye and can match CLs colors perfectly. He's had to fill in spots for me on more than one occasion.
My red Nabuck python ADs had very very dark spots on them. So dark that they looked dirty but they had obviously never even had the paper lifted up off of them.
So don't worry. The more exotics you get, the more you'll see how inconsistent the dye is.

Schnauzer-don't do that too often or you'll "break" the skin. And NEVER put Ostrich, Croc or Alligator in the freezer or you'll ruin it forever.

If you need to put your python shoes in the freezer to uncurl the scales then you're not taking care of your shoes. Your scales should never get to the point that they start to curl. I've never heard of putting python in the freezer but I do know that if the other skins freeze, they "break". And I've been told not to wear my python boots in weather that's freezing to where the scales become so cold that they start to freeze. So, that's why I don't think it's such a great idea to expose python to such extreme anything. Heat or cold.

Not freezer, fridge -- I actually got that advice from a Chanel SA. I've only done it once and to a bag, not a pair of shoes. It worked - the scales uncurled - but I think your advice is sound in that it shouldn't be overused... or used at all if you take care of the skin properly.
