Wash your Coach in Washing Machine?

I only hand wash. I find that I have to be careful when washing the lining in my bags because if water gets on the creed patch it swells and makes the imprint difficult to read. It stays that way after drying. It has happened on 2 of my bags.

mama gave me her black sig bag couple years ago and I've managed to get it pretty dirty.
So I'm going to get some woolite and see if it'll survive a hand bath.

*sigh, I just can throw it in the wash- not b/c its coach but because it took a lot of time to get mom to part with one of her precious' :amuse:

I and many others have washed many Coaches in the Washing Machine. Read through the Coach Rehab and Rescue thread and join the craziness :lawl:

I would not put a Legacy Vachetta bag in the wash, because Vachetta and water aren't a good mix. But vintage Coach and others have successfully been washed

I just did it I washed my Silver sateen Maggie Op Art shoulder bag. I was desperate as it was beyond spot cleaning. I put it in a pillow slip and washed it on the delicate cycle with a tsp of the Coach cleaner. It came out clean and unscathed. It is now hanging up to air dry. I had nothing to loose because I was not using it in its dirty state, so glad I took the chance. And now I can use it again!:smile1:

There are actually GREAT places you can take your bags to get professionally clean. I've heard of them being able to get ink marks out of interiors and all sorts of crazy things! I would try that! If you don't live near one, they allow you to ship the bag to them for cleaning!

I've taken ink out of lining with shout and a baby wipe. It doesn't fade or damage in any way. Comes out rather easy too.

I've considered throwing one of mine in the wash. It's siggy fabric with leather trim, it's MFF. I've carried it for like 3 years straight, and it's been sprayed down with lysol more times then I can count and it came out fine with lysol sprayed multiple times on it. I've been really curious about washing it lately, haven't done it yet. May go ahead and try it and see what happens, it's been well carried and used and right now I don't carry it since it reeks of Lysol where I sprayed it so much over the years. Might try the washing machine thing and see how it turns out, wont be a terrible loss if it don't work, and if it does well I can use it again and I now know I can do it! I'll let you all know how it goes when I do it!

I've mainly been a lurker here but was curious about your fabric coach bags with leather trim. My friends said that she and her mother washed their coach signature bags (jacquard fabric) in the washing machine on gentle cycle and air dried outside for a few days under the sun. They said it did not ruin the bag, I did see their bags after their "wash" and it seemed to look in tact but would personally I'd be afraid to wash any future Coach bags (planning on Legacy Stripe).
Has anyone here done this and what were your results?
TIA!

I was mine with toothbrush and liquid detergent. After washing, alas! Tsaran! All cleaned and smells good. Nothing bad happens! :)

And buy a coach fabric cleaner, it's very effective and efficient. Brush gently using a soft bristled toorhbrush and after brushing wipe it gently with the use of paper towel. After cleaning, use an electric fan or bring it closer to a humidifier to dry it off. I tried it a lot of times so worry not for damages. Hope it helps! ;)

I bought my Coach bag (fabric with gold metallic Cs and leather accents) a couple of years ago and I was ready to retire it because it had gotten pretty dirty. I went to the Coach store and got the fabric cleaner, but it did nothing. Not only was my purse not cleaner, but the areas where I'd tried to scrub got worn away a bit (and it wasn't from excessive scrubbing). Tonight I just bit the bullet and put it in my front loading machine with some towels. It came out noticeably cleaner and no worse for the wear. In fact, because the first round had gone ok, I put it through a second wash to see if I could get it any brighter and it did! The spots that look the worst are the places where I'd tried to use the cleaner first. I am happy because I was going to stop carrying the bag because it was too dirty, but it's gotten a new lease on life! :D

I've put the khaki and sateen fabric ones in the washer with shout sprayed in the stains then let them air dry and they looked new again. It doesn't really hurt the fabric just cleans all the dirt off. Also the leather trim was fine.

Hi there, I know this thread is old but I wanted to contribute.

I have a Coach purse that I used daily for a year. It was really dirty, dye transfer from a black cardigan, dust bunnies inside, pencil sharpening, and spilt black tea. (Picture 1)

I couldn't sell or even donate it as is, so I figured I might as well try to throw it in the washing machine to see what happens. I put it in a delicates garment bag and tossed it in both washer and dryer. I set my dryer to low heat tumble. (Picture 2)

The result was pretty good. The outside isn't as dark, but the real magic was the inside. Everything pretty much came out!! Month old tea stain gone! (Picture 3) If it was summer, I'd leave it in the sun to dry. So I would definitely give the green light to wash your cloth/fabric Coach bags.

I wouldn't go near the washing machine or the tumble dryer with any of my bags. I wouldn't want to risk them being damaged. If they need a clean, take them to a dry cleaners. Even if they don't clean it there, they'll send the bag off to a specialist cleaners. If you decide you're going to try cleaning them yourself anyway, then I say do so at your own peril! But please let us all know the outcome either way!

I just called my local cleaners and one said if the bag has any leather on it which mine does on the handles and a strip in the front that it costs alot to ship it out to someone else to do it so it would be between $50-$60 and they can't send it out until they get enough other leather to send it all together so it could take awhile. And the only other cleaners near me an Oriental lady answered who I could barely understand and she said they won't even do it. So I guess I am stuck with cleaning it myself. I just bought a really nice coach bag for a great deal on eBay but the lady never mentioned it needed to be cleaned of course. But I gave her positive feedback anyway and never mentioned it. So I have just been googling how to clean it properly so I don't ruin it hopefully. And I am afraid to put it in the washing machine especially since this is my first coach bag and I would hate to destroy it. I read online a stain remover called Grandma's Secret stain remover works really well and it's really cheap from Walmart and it also supposedly gets out old set in stains that are hard to remove so I think I am going to try that. And I also read that you can use any type of baby wash or shampoo because it's gentler so it's better for the material yet it cleans well at the same time. So that's also another option. I just wish I could just toss it in the washer though because the whole entire bag looks dingy all over. No real stained spots luckily it just looks like it will take awhile to clean the whole thing  This is a picture of the pocketbook...it doesn't look that bad in the picture but in person you can see it. And there actually is a mark of some kind on the bottom right and I'm not sure what it's from but I doubt it will come out with anything but you never know. And the lady on eBay actually did NOT take a picture of that spot either in the listing. Although I don't know if it would of made a difference actually I just wish she would of mentioned it though.

I've tried Grandmas Secret and didn't think it was anything special. You can wash this bag in the sink with Dawn or any dishwashing liquid. Because the leather is patent, it won't absorb water readily so it should hold up fine. Make sure you rinse really well. You can use Soilove (available at the 99 cents store) for stains. Really most stain removers are safe as long as they don't contain bleach. After you rinse, wrap it in a towel to absorb excess water. Dry off the leather parts, then lay out to dry. When it is just damp, reshape the bag by stuffing it with towels and let it dry completely.

If there are any ink marks, you should tackle those first before you wash the bag. Use alcohol or acetone (nail polish remover).
