I use it like a tote, or really big bag for work, as opposed to a brief case/lap top bag. I use it for work when I want to take more than my usual medium to large bag will hold. I usually take a small wallet, tech pouch, odds n ends pouch, phone, keys. But there will be the day I want to throw in my tablet, iPad Air, large hair brush, makeup bag, manilla folder with misc paperwork, mp3 player, ear buds, Lara bars (in the winter, extra pair of socks) . . . you get the idea.
It will not hold a laptop. It may hold the larger iPad. It will just fit a standard manilla folder. I like to organize my pouches on end. It can hold alot, but it is no Beekman brief. The zipper is set 6 " above the base (just whipped out a ruler) and I have not lost anything yet and I can count on my key ring to sink to the bottom. I keep my phone in tne inside pouch, which is my SOP for bags with no outter slip pocket.
It has rigid handle like the Rogue so I hand carry or use the shoulder strap only. I use it when I go to my office or another location where I know I can just park it for the day. If I need to stop in a market or meet someone after work, I just take my wallet znd keys in with me. I can post a pic tomorrow.
I am crazy about mine lol. I got a rock bottom deal (and it was listed as a Bancroft so I was sure I would be outbid!) on it in very good condition. The leather is amazing. But mine has no inside organizer pocket, just a zipper pocket. I would get another if lightening would strike twice for a low starting bid and no other bidders!

Thanks for the info. It’s funny how I’ve looked at bags for years and then one I never considered or downright discounted before becomes “a must have”.
I never carry a bag to lunch either! Isn’t that strange? Wallet and phone. Sometimes just $ and phone. As if it’s too much trouble to carry my bag?

You are smart! Have you ever had your shoulder bag fall off your shoulder as you are carrying your tray.....upsets the entire apple cart!

For those of you with a Bancroft briefcase, do you use it as briefcase or a daily bag? Is it comfortable and how much does it hold? Does it tip open and feel like the contents will spill?

So here it is with a few items I mentioned. From the side you can see the pouches lengthwise are basically secure. I love the side detailing. Just like the Oliver, which I also have and think a totally under rated style.o
ETA You can see it is maxed out by any item the size of a standard manilla folder. But it gives me more structure than the Light Tote.

I love the Oliver too. That side detail is so cool. I recently spotted the same tapered side detail on a bag (not a Coach) carried by Grace Kelly in "To Catch a Thief" (1955). Edith Head's costume designs make that movie well worth watching...but I digress.

Now, I will have to see what an Oliver is....

Several of the early 90s zip-top styles seem vaguely toaster-shaped to me. I made a collage of these "toaster bags" (wondering if maybe the designers at Coach were influenced by the 1986 children's book, The Brave Little Toaster.)
Starting from top left, clockwise
1. 9895 Brighton Bag 11.75 x 8.25 x 4
2. 9760 Camera Bag 10 x 7 x 2.5
3. 9087 Metropolis Zip 9.25 x 7.5 x 3.5
4. 9931 Lewiston Bag 9.5 x 7 x 3.25
5. 9902 Oliver Bag 12.5 x 8 x 3.25
