Besides all the cottage industry customizers out there, there was the COACH Barney's NY "collaboration" which saw fringes applied to several iconic styles:

I believe that the program you're referring to from a couple of years back (and which I recall Debi did play a role as an aggregator who enlisted "volunteers" in acquiring vintage inventory from the resale marketplaces) was one for the European (and other foreign?) markets that saw patches appliqued to a selection of classic vintage styles. I remember that several tPf members voiced rather divergent opinions about these modified items on one of the threads back when photos became available.

Slightly off topic, but I see a catalog photo in this link you’ve attached that I’ve never seen before! A bag that’s come up before with an unknown style name/number. It’s very hard to make out, but almost looks like Saddle Bag Large? The one above the Crescent bag.

Thanks for sharing, neat! View attachment 3994563

I've got 3 of those babies! (Saddle bag large) that is. But I don't know if I've seen that picture before either.

Exciting! I wish we could read it. That also looks like the long handled skinny flight bag, but it has a shorter name.

The Barney's "Coach Vintage" campaign web page with the early catalog images is a great find! Thank you RLB for linking and thank you rkiz for spotting that Saddle Bag Large illustration.

That unknown bag in the lower right corner is intriguing! The handles are a different type than the ones on the long-handled Skinny Flight bag in my files, and there's something pictured on the side of the bag that could be a shoulder strap attachment, which my long handled Skinny Flight bag didn't have. I wish we could read the text!

I noticed in the Barney's article that they were calling the embellished Convertible Clutch style a "Large Dinky."

lol, isn't 'large dinky' an oxymoron?

The bag on the lower right you're referring, the "original" Flight Bag, is significantly larger 15"L x 9"H x 6"D than the #9706 Skinny Flight Bag. I believe that it was a released as a resized women's version of an earlier men's Flight Bag that COACH offered...

If only I could read the style number from the advert!

ETA: There was a later version of the women's Fight Bag where the buckle-attached adjustable straps were replaced with fixed length straps...

Ah, thank you! A visit to http://sacsmagnifiques.com/2014/03/spotlight-whats-in-your-closet.html
brought me to this image (scroll down the page) which appears to match the mystery style pictured in the Barney's ad. (Photo credit to SacsMagnifiques.)

Thank you @lakeeffect I’ve been out of town and just saw this. You’re right - red is tricky. This is the first red bag I’ve rehabbed where I feel like I’ve gotten the color consistent.
When I saw this post, I wanted to raise my hand and say, oh, oh, I know the answer to this question! Only because I have the big sister to this, the Pocket Bag in red too. Nice rehab, red is tricky. I acquired my bag, amazingly in virtually unused condition. Although is must have been left out, it has some fading across the flap.

Does anyone know/take a guess what era that catalog might be? Late 70s to early 80's? A copy of the catalog must exist somewhere (right?). I have one of those bags too and would love to finally know what it's actual style name is. I have never seen that catalog pic before. Even trying to sharpen the image, I can't make out the text.

Is it weird that I am all excited about this? :)

Not weird at all!

I was thinking there must be a copy of that catalog in the Coach Archives, at least.
