I am trying to see if can take the next step here and post links. I just did a copy and paste of what was in the browser.
I think it is official that I am spending **alot** of time looking at listings (official vintage coach fanatic?) when I see a listing, the bag gets sold and then I recognize the same bag got relisted again lol. Red rivet bag came back! I saw this bag recently and I think it was posted about here or on the authenticate thread. Red shoulder sac (not as pretty as whateve's though) that looked like there was a rivet right through the handle, possibly both. I even emailed the seller and she assured me the handle was adjustable. I didn't think to ask for another pic. Anyways, when I took a close up look on my large work monitor, I saw some spottiness and just decided to take a pass. And here it showed up again. there was a pretty steep BIN price that I thought was a bit ambitious. But maybe I'm just an amateur. Well, I am lol.

Regarding recent comments on size of handbags, I definitely like the look of smaller bags, but I  my larger bags. Just the practicality. I am just the kind of female who carries stuff. I have a small "counter top" bag ( the ridiculous Top of Counter style name) that is beautiful, but man, that zipper combined with a small east/west just does not work for me. Once I get it authenicated it's getting sold.

Yep, that's the one with the rivet through the strap. Sure it is adjustable, but not removable, as it should be. I hope the buyer's OK with that.
(There's another auction for one of those in red on eBay right now if anyone's looking.)

Is it me or isn't there supposed to be a hook for the strap to attach to?

No, there were a whole series of bags in the early 1970s that had this type of grommet/eyelet strap attachment. I recall there being: an early version of what morphed into the Dinky, an early version of the Convertible Clutch, and a Fold Over with kisslock coin purse, just to name a few styles with this configuration. If you look carefully, you'll note that either a tapered dog leash clip or an unusual lobster claw were employed to accommodate the relatively small hole in the grommet.

Lol yeah I was watching both red ones since mine is the blotchy polished one. I opted for a never used white Madison Sutton instead! I love that style! I had been stalking the listing and finally emailed him an offer and he accepted! [emoji126]
ETA: my dining room table is also my rehab work space. Lol!

I don't have any of these small bags so I would like to hear what the experienced have to say. To even my untrained eye it reeks of a cheesy strap substitution.

Yes, it's the real deal! Also if you look closely you can see the little anchor stamped on the dog leash clip. There's a theory that Coach sourced some of their brass fittings from a nautical supplier and this was their mark. There's a post about it here:

Thank you! I'm still learning something new each day when it comes to vintage Coach. If it didn't have that big stain on it I may just have bid on it. IMO its priced too high.

They do look odd. I much prefer the later versions with the rings to attach the strap.

I would have been put off by the grommet/eyelet attachment, too - I agree it looks a little odd.

I previously rehabbed an authenticated slim clutch zipper portfolio 9555 from the 1970s or 80s that has a strange feature which I have never been able to determine as original or a modification? It has a little hole punched in the side of the bag (no grommet) which may be for the hangtag chain. It also looks odd to me but I can't think of any other reason for punching a small hole in the side of the bag, see the pics below. Have any of you ever seen a similar feature on an older coach bag?
