Omg, you nailed it with "bonding ritual"! I've got my first thrifted bag (a station bag, Willis I think, 9927, I'm afraid to ask for authentication, I'm a rookie, don't know if I can handle the heartbreak yet) drying now after a bath to reshape, following some amazing threads here, thank you ladies, high five! And Im shocked at how excited I am to get to the conditioning and USING stage! We totally bonded in the bath!

gorgeous!!! are these slim satchels all 13x7 for the most part? how did folks fit an 8.5x11 paper into them, let alone a file folder of papers?

Wow! It's gorgeous! I willingly take the blame! I wonder why they didn't see the wisdom of making these in suede later as well. They are as rare as hen's teeth!

This one is a slim satchel compact, so it is even smaller than the slim satchel. The regular slim satchel is 13 x 9, the compact is 12 x 7, according to Coach, but the compact was 13 x 7 1/2 in the 70s when it was called the handle clutch, which is a more accurate name IMO. Their description in 1983 said the standard was "smaller than a briefcase" and the compact was " larger than a clutch."

Beautiful! I love reverse suede. It is so pretty.

Gorgeous bag! Love the chocolate brown suede---very pretty.

Gorgeous. I'm so jealous. I've always loved vintage Coach. And now I'm going to try collecting a few pieces....

Thanks everyone! Now I just need an excuse to carry her!

Expecting my Willis bag, and it looks like it's in excellent condition, but curious of details of bath and what to use to condition/protect leather. I would appreciate any help, as this will be my first vintage Coach bag, and I am over the moon excited !!

I'm new at this too but it is so rewarding to see these beautiful vintage bags come out looking so amazing after the bath and conditioning. They're truly a pleasure to work with and carry.

Enjoy!

Just stumbled across this thread, and thought I would post a small contribution. I had already been given the mandarin, Carlyle. Over the weekend I was gifted it's cousin. I am not sure of it's actual color name.
