Wow, that's cool. There's a very nice video of Debi Nemetz at work in her studio too.

Love all of those gorgeous vintage bags in the video----beautiful studio, too. Master leather restorer Debi certainly has come a long way since she was on the rehab thread several years ago asking for advice from Whateve on how to restore a red dinky I believe.

gorgeous!!! are these slim satchels all 13x7 for the most part? how did folks fit an 8.5x11 paper into them, let alone a file folder of papers?

They were handbags, not briefcases. Here's a briefcase I bought back in the 80s, and a watermelon tote that I thrifted a few years ago. I also have a slim tote that is about the same size as the watermelon tote. The briefcase can easily hold a file folder, but it isn't big. The tote is perfect for an ipad, though!

that explains a lot! so the slim satchels were never meant for 'business use'. i always thought of them as briefcases, but they're just not big enough at 7" high. but some of them are 9" high, so those are more like true briefcases? similar style, just a bit taller?

I can just fit the notepad in the watermelon tote but only barely. A file folder wouldn't fit.

So this is whateve's fault:

Pre-creed reverse suede. Most gorgeous suede purse ever!
Wow! It's gorgeous! I willingly take the blame! I wonder why they didn't see the wisdom of making these in suede later as well. They are as rare as hen's teeth!

This one is a slim satchel compact, so it is even smaller than the slim satchel. The regular slim satchel is 13 x 9, the compact is 12 x 7, according to Coach, but the compact was 13 x 7 1/2 in the 70s when it was called the handle clutch, which is a more accurate name IMO. Their description in 1983 said the standard was "smaller than a briefcase" and the compact was " larger than a clutch."
