I wouldn't use acetone on lightweight leather as the dye doesn't go all the way through the leather. I haven't had much luck with rehabbing lightweight bags so now I avoid them. I'm also going to avoid ivory and white bags in future as I'm not having much fun with the ones I'm working on at the moment.

I'll be interested to see how you go with dye. I think it's hard to get an even finish. I have a white pre-serial NYC Basic Bag that I'm thinking of re-dyeing white.

Ledobe recommends this product. Here's the link to the rehab thread where she posted a pic showing a Gigi 12 months after using it.

am beginning to appreciate --sigh--what you all have been saying. my lightweight ivory? bone? sacrificial gallery tote has now been soaked in cold water with about 4 ozs. of fieblings brown leather dye (acrylic ).

the poor bag looks like its had a severe case of brown measles.

but! i have hope. also ordered some cognac leather dye (trg?)- a british brand ?.

when i get that i will apply by hand. and then condition, condition, condition.

if i can ever figure out how to post pics from an ipad--i'll post.

if only as an example of what not to do!

You are soaking it in Fiebings? I've applied Fiebings with a paint brush and it still was super uneven. If this other stuff goes on even, I'd like to know. I wonder if it is legal to ship to California.

i will certainly --uhmm-- keep you posted!

last year i attempted to re dye a poor harmless fossil hobo which had never harmed anyone...
chose fiebings green. after three coats the hobo, by then a blinding green, albeit in scaly patches, was dispatched to charity. i hope and trust it formed part of someone's halloween costume...

I think we all have a failure, or three!

To post from ipad, click on go advanced, then manage attachments. It should come up with browse option and you select from existing and it will take you to your camera roll. Select then upload. When uploaded, exit and save in tpf. Photos must be 1500 x 1500 or less. It will tell you if they're too big so you can resize.

I thought I would share my incredible find on Etsy. It's made in NYC and has a glued in serial number. I can hardly wait to get it and start working on it. It should keep me busy for a while and maybe off eBay but I wouldn't count on it. I've attached a couple of photos too. This is my Christmas and B'day present to me! :-)
