A question on color for the hive mind! I sold this bag (which I think is Mocha color). Buyer was irate at the color, says it's "washed out." I'm thinking she was expecting mahogany. Anyone know if Lula was made in Mocha? Here's a photo of the bag, which I rehabbed as per usual with Leather CPR & Blackrock Leather 'n Rich. Her comments: "Whatever “cleaning process” was used to clean this ruined the leather color and patina. It looks like a washed out color. I’ve owned many Coach purses - vintage and they don’t look washed out like this does." She didn't write to me and ask for a return, just left negative feedback on my ebay. I put my heart into these rehabs.

I am a catalog enthusiast. Since the day I found catalog photos on tPF!!! One of the reasons I started the vintage catalog thread is that I wanted to make it easier for other people here to find out when styles were offered and in what color, when I just didn’t have time to respond here.
I don’t go by appearance of the bag as much as much as what colors was it offered in per the catalog, in the timeframe of when the bag was made (so it helps to understand roughly when the bag was made, according to the Creed patch/reg #). I generally avoid responding to ‘what color does this bag look like’ often posted because the color can change over time just with oxidation, let alone wear and conditioning or lack of. And there were probably slight variations in dye lots until dying was more heavily computerized. And now that we have an abundance of catalogs in the reference sub forum, it is much easier to make an educated guess on what it was offered in based on the catalogs.
From what I can see in the catalogs, I don’t believe that style was offered in mocha. Mocha doesn’t appear in the palates in the catalogs after the early ‘90s and as best I can tell, it dropped off the radar around the time Coach transitioned to adding the style number of the bag under the Creed. Other opinions are welcome.
It was offered in Mahogany. I have a Shopper 9090 that has not been dunked, but has been given wet wipe downs followed by CPR and will still look a bit faded. Back in the day, I remember someone complaining that her Soho Waverely I assumed was mahog was faded looking. I have other mahog bags too and looked at lots of listing and tend to be of an opinion that mahog bags tend to fade. It’s not to say they can’t be a great rehab. YMMV
I am sorry that you got a neg on this. You put a lot of effort in your rehabs. I want to sell bags at some future point and I am already mentally formulating disclaimers on variation in color, wear, etc. Unfortunately I think there are buyers out there that are antagonistic and maybe not well informed, especially in this climate for vintage Coach that has gotten weird, IMO.
ETA I just looked at the listing. I have a strong suspicion the bag is taupe. I have a taupe Patti F6D. IMO regardless your photos are accurate. So I don’t know why the buyer was surprised.

I so appreciate your careful and thoughtful answer here. Person is going to return the bag. I'll see if I can get them to modify the negative feedback. :) I do love the rehabs, and I have WAYYY too many bags. I do want to sell some. But I'm having a slew of weird interactions on ebay. :p I have another requesting a return and questioning authenticity on an East/West Duffel. I'm 99.9% sure I had the bag authenticated here and I'm 100% sure it's authentic.

You’re welcome. I needed to unlearn many misconceptions I had about vintage Coach. That’s why I love that this site has so much information here.
Everyone’s an expert right??? I know it’s gonna be interesting when people say, but I know Coach …

There is a habit in the states to order clothes and accessories for a one or two time use and then return the item. I wonder if this is happening on ebay? ETA.... I also wonder if there is a way to attach a tag with a tagger gun or some other way to prevent the item from being used without the seller knowing. (tag cut off)
