I was curious about this exact issue a few years ago. The leather is not of Coach quality. It's thinner and more lightweight. From what I've seen, people charge for those bags as if they were Coach. I've never had one in person but I would get one at a reasonable, below Coach's, price. I don't know which bag you're considering but I've seen a few kiss lock duffles on eBay and Etsy for quite hefty price tags. Bags of lesser quality are definitely not worth that type of money. I wish I could be of more help but I know the quality is not the same. (Sorry if this is a bit disjointed. Just spent the day pursuing my 19 month old granddaughter. We call it babysitting)
Just wanted to tag on here - the leather on the meyers bags is nowhere near the quality of coach. I saw a few meyers bags back in the days before everyone knew who Bonnie Cashin was and they were very thin and iffy quality leathers. They also seemed to age much worse than any coach bags I ever saw. I passed on them back when they were cheap. I do like the styles, but I wouldn't buy due to the quality.

I think someone has rehabbed a meyer bag, they may have dunked it? You could do a search on it here.
This is exactly what I wanted to know. Thank you so much! I do want a kisslock duffle but haven’t seen any Coach ones of late, only Meyers. I never paid attention to them until very recently when they started pinging my radar, haha. Good to know it’s better to stick to vintage Coach!

Yes, definitely stick to vintage Coach. I had two Bonnie Cashin for Meyers bags. I think I dunked one, but it didn't really improve it. The leather is not as nice as Coach and neither is the hardware. I sold both of them. Vintage Coach is much, much nicer.

Though I will note that the leather on some Bonnie Cashin for Coach bags isn't that great, either. I have a couple rare Bonnie Cashin for Coach bags that have thinner leather and don't really rehab well.

Does anyone know if the leather on Bonnie Cashin for Meyers bags are similar to vintage Coach leather? Are they dunkable? I’m considering getting one but on the fence.

I have a Cashin for Meyers bag that I rehabbed and I think that the leather is very nice. I dunked it and it came out quite well. I had read that another rehabber had issues with dunking a Meyers bag so I made sure to let it dry slowly. I kept it moisturized while drying and there were no problems.

I didn't spend much on it but then I've tried not to spend a lot on any of my rehab projects. It used to be easier to pick up a vintage bag inexpensively.

You can see pictures of my Cashin for Meyers bag at the link below.

Check out this bag. Reminds me of the old west saddle bags. I haven’t seen one before.

Bag twins! I do like this one especially since it says Bonnie Cashin for Meyers on the back interior wall. I purchased at a thrift store and could not believe my eyes! In general, I am partial for the vintage Coach bags.

Thank you very much!

Genuine Crescent Bag, and probably made in the late 1980s.

And just a bit more on hangtags - many forum members here and elsewhere have spent a lot of time trying to figure them out and assign dates to certain configurations. But as I said, even if the details are correct for a certain time period, you can almost never be completely sure that the tag is original to that exact bag, and some of the fakes are pretty close.

With parts that are easily changeable or removeable, we've learned to not depend on them when figuring out authenticity. There are dozens if not hundreds of posts here at tPF in the Vintage Photos thread, and some of the experts there are much more experienced and qualified to give opinions on hangtags and all their variations than I. If you're still interested in those details when you receive the bag, you can try asking at the Vintage Photos And Chat thread in the main Coach forum, Coach Clubhouse sub-forum:

@Hyacinth recently posted the comment above about genuine versus fake hangtags and it reminded me of a hangtag question that has been bothering me.

Previously I had rehabbed a Terrace Bag 4117 that came with a type of hangtag that I had never seen before, see the pics below. When I rehabbed the bag I replaced it with a brown leather hangtag that was more consistent with the original but I still have this metal one. It is a thin metal tag and it has a distressed (or antiqued?) dark brass coloration.

I have seen this same hangtag in online pictures being used with various authentic coach bags but it usually appears to be a replacement hangtag and not original to the bag.

Does anyone know if Coach ever issued these thin, dark brass hangtags, perhaps as a generic replacement hangtag? I am thinking of using the one I have on another bag that I've recently rehabbed - but I don't want to use it if it's a fake. Thanks for your help!

You must be great to have as a friend or family member!!! Great job, beautiful purses!!!
Thanks! I give away both newer and vintage bags. I've even been known to send a bag home with dinner guests. Lol! Glad I got a bunch of vintage styles before prices went crazy. I’ve got several lunchboxes, manors, Willis, and Chesters to rehab for gifts. it’s a win-win giving them to good homes frees up space for my own collection. I even give cleaning/conditioning products to recipients.
