I know right.....
Then you see what the resellers pay for it and see a month later they are selling for 4 times the price.
Thats why I left the facebook group.
I wanted to see beautiful bags..and I did see some wonderful interesting ones they really caught my eye and some amazing rehabs.....but a very few members gloating about what they paid for a bag and how much they are going to sell it for and the anti TPF comments put me off so I left.
And we know they are watching here....so Hi!!
I know you mean. I have read those things too. The comments are out there (serious nut job level stuff) in public, in one group. I'm not interested in that vibe either. Yes, they lurk. Hi lurkers! And interestingly someone has popped back over here.

Theres a bag that I want and its auction style but this time Im prepared! I have an alarm set for when its ending and I googled the bag to see what it typically sells for so that my bid is high enough that one of those resellers won’t outbid me because they need to worry about their profit margin while I just wanna add it to my collection! I swear if this time I don’t win, Im never touching auctions again!! I can’t handle the disappointment lmao
Atta girl, go for it! I won the auction for my Mahogany Berk Flap for 99 cents! And I won another auction by something like 28 cents. And we all know my Rust Saddle happy ending! I have never been put off of auctions. I've been disappointed by being outbid, but I have won enough to know that when it's right, it's right. I think most often, I am the only bidder. Sometimes early on, after I put a bid in, I'm like, you know, it won't break my heart to be outbid! LOL Now I tend to wait to the end of the auction to bid, like it's a little bit of litmus test of how bad do I want it. So I think about what my max will be, so if I am outbid by just one other bidder, I'll at least know I just did not want to go higher.
Also, I picked up two of may favorite non-vintage bags on auction, my Citron Legacy Leather Flap and Cornflower Ace. The Ace had a MAO feature and for the heck of it, not too long after it had been listed, I put an offer in for $20 or 30 above the starting bid and was wondering if it would tick the seller off. She accepted it immediately!!

Gloating about reselling is in such poor taste! I know the group you are talking about - I think I’m still a member but I haven’t checked it in a long time... never did enjoy the vibe there. I sell sometimes myself, usually after rehabbing but occasionally not. If I see that someone in this group has brought up a bag for authentication or shown interest in it, I will avoid buying it (solidarity!). And I certainly don't believe in price gouging once I do sell. I am truly shocked at how high some sellers have gone lately. Are people buying these bags at 2-300+?? I find that excessive for most vintage styles! At any rate, I think it's disrespectful to those who missed out on good deal to brag about how much it will resell for.

I much prefer this community on TPF - even though I don’t post much I do like to keep up with the lovely bags and histories you all share. Everyone here is so friendly and supportive too!

Im still learning and growing my collection and love seeing what everyone else has in theirs.
I want to go to @houseof999 s house to see all her bags.

I think all my non US peeps can agree that our bid ceiling is also limited due to the currency conversion and shipping+duties (I hate how ebay pre calculates them- like why can’t you just let my package take the gamble with customs lmao) I can’t complain too much though because Ive gotten some pretty great deals as well! I scored my convertible clutch for $18 cause the seller had spelling mistakes in the listing title so no one really saw the listing haha. I hope I win this auction, I need it after losing all my other auctions!

eta: also did you win the mahogany flap for 99 cents or you won the auction by 99 cents? Either way, good job! I need your auction luck haha

I recently saw a not-even-vintage Willis for over $600! It's not new and not mint!

If I want a bag I just have to wear the costs of shipping to NZ...can range between NZ$40 to $100 just to NZ with out adding the tax.
So sometimes I get a bag really cheap but the cost to get it here is sometimes 2 to 3 times the cost of the bag so I have to weight it up constantly.
Im watching a few bals and the shipping on some of them is enormous...NZ$115 to $175 was the largest I had seen.
Then the tax goes on and the exchange rate....dont get me started.

I hate that! I notice it too, auctions that I lost will pop back up on etsy and ebay after a dunk and some conditioner with a ridiculous price tag attached lmao its honestly so frustrating. If I lose this auction that Im watching, Im never bidding again. I hate the adrenaline rush of watching the final moments and then that bitter disappointment when you don’t win lol
BIN and make an offer is all Im doing from now on.

That's nuts. Is it because Coach has been re-releasing some of the vintage styles in their Originals line? I don't know if that's actually driving up demand for the vintage versions, or if it's just wishful think on the seller's part (well for the $600 Willis, definitely the latter lol)....

I think this is the case as I was watching bags before the originals were released and seen the prices go up.

Maybe that explains some of the pricing I’m seeing. I’d been busy with school for the past year so I took a bit of a break from buying vintage Coach, now getting back into it since it’s summer and I have more time. It’s harder to find good deals than just a few years ago. The lower priced bags go so fast that I’m feeling pressured to make quick decisions when I see something I like!

I noticed the price has increased over the last few months as well. I started collecting vintage coach in February of this year and it wasn’t as bad as it is now. Its a double edged sword though because on one hand, my rehabs sell like hot cakes but on the other hand, all this demand is making it harder for me to find decently priced bags lol.
