Ok ladies, I am ready to confess, @Hyacinth I don’t have any popcorn to give you, but would recommend a good caramel cheddar mix (which sounds gross but is awesome) if you can find one...I bought the relisted Sherbourne bag. I hated to pay the extra $20 and to give that guy the business, but I wanted it, I want a project, I am bored and that is all I’ve got for reasons. Once it is here and rehabbed I plan to tag it on social with the Coach Original tag they want you to use if sporting true vintage or one of their modern inspired redos and see if Coach will weigh in.

Caramel Cheddar sounds good to me! And please keep us up to date about whatever else you learn about the bag, if there's anyone who knows.

I'd suggest Saving a copy of the entire listing, or at least saving screencaps of the information and descriptions, just to see if you get any apparently valid information that contradicts what the seller claimed. And please, DON'T leave any Feedback until you've had a chance to put all the information together. We're very interested to see what is real and what is the seller's "imagination". I've come across other examples of that imagination being used to justify obscenely high prices and I'm wondering if this is the same kind of situation. I hope the bag cleans up well, but if it doesn't I hope you give it to the seller with both barrels. And please, take photos of all those verdigris-infested areas before you start cleaning.

Thanks for the advice. The bag looks pretty grubby and not at all in the condition he described just looking at the pics. A hole and/or odor arriving with the scuffs, dirt and verdigris would make me return it. I will go take the screencaps and will photo the verdigris. I suspect I will be wearing gloves for this rehab. I want to tag Coach and maybe see if Deb the Restorer will be willing to share wisdom since she told me the UA stewardess only came in tabac and all those BT and black ones I saw were lighting or patina for the BT and likely dyed for the black ones.

If you try caramel cheddar popcorn you have to find the right one. Some are bland, but I have had 2 I adored, but neither are in stores. One is Easy Peasy Caramel Cheesy they keep mailing samples to work wanting us to do fund raisers and I was horrified to find the smallest container was $30+ shipped so I will keep raiding the mail bin lol. The other my mom got as a gift at work, thought it sounded gross and gave it to me. Loved it, but it was also expensive and I forget its name.

I wonder if he's the professional authenticator? Will he supply a certificate of professional authentication?

It wouldn't be the first time a seller has concealed being heavily involved in their own authentication service. We had a prime example a few years back here at tPF. If someone has other family members or friends living in different parts of the country , it wouldn't be difficult. I'm NOT saying it's happening, there's absolutely no evidence of that. I've never seen them recommending any specific service. But the whole thing makes me uncomfortable because I've seen what CAN happen.

Even if there's absolutely nothing hinky going on, we've seen all too often how unreliable many of the professional authenticators can be. The description "professional" doesn't mean they're accurate or even somewhat competant, it just means they're getting paid for doing it.

As for many certificates of Professional Authentication, their only value is to keep them on a shelf in the bathroom until the supplies of toilet paper get back to normal.

I have never been brave enough to remove a turnlock. Besides fear of breaking it, I worry I will stab myself in the process. Another reason I should have held out for a Willis with nickel lol.
I believe someone here has gone to an auto parts place and gotten one of those kits that they use to remove the dash off the car. Think the tools are made of of plastic so as not to scratch the car.
