It’s worth reading the gov website below. The bottom of the page says:
Goods sold before 1 January 2021
If a seller receives payment for an order before 11pm on 31 December 2020 and dispatches the item after that time, these rules will not apply.”
Thank you for the link! Such a relief to actually be told I'll be having the amount refunded.
I'm sure I'm not the only person this has happened to.

I wanted to say thanks for the advice-
I contacted both Vestiare and DHL and stated my case that as the goods were purchased on the 19th December I should not be charged the Vat/imprt duty.
Today I got an email from Vestiare agreeing to pay the money back into my account.
At almost £500 thats a big relief!

What a relief! Congrats!

Hi,
Can you pls suggest any reliable ebay sellers for B/K bags, who are selling authentic bags. I am new to Hermes and the forum. I've been reading extensively through the forum pages and I confess I'm a little lost ! Could not find any recent references. Also, is it safe to buy from overseas ebay sellers. Pls advise :)

I’m so angry! I purchased something via Vestiaire on 19th December from a uk based buyer, for added security I had it sent to Vestiaire to be checked out- delays due to Brexit meant it only arrived in Paris this Tuesday 5th. Vestiaire shipped it to me this morning and DHL have messaged to confirm delivery for tomorrow and guess what??
I have to pay £500 import tax:annoyed::annoyed:/VAT
So angry as it the delay letting it into France from UK that caused this ( it was sat in a warehouse in France for ages before being sent to Vestiaire) and in the UK we don’t pay Vat on 2nd hand goods so why should we when we buy from overseas?
plus if not for the delay in releasing it due to backlog due to Brexit I would have received the item well before 31st December
So upset! That’s my money for a Calvi verso gone for nothing!
I’m wondering if I can contest this charge- I’ve paid it to get the goods but it seems insane that it going UK-Paris-back to UK has cost me £500!
Rant over !

I find this outrageous:cursing: : I'm also a buyer on VC and I won't be able to buy anything coming from the UK anymore, I'm in Italy by the way. From what I can understand there are no customs' fees, I'm not sure if below a certain value, but VAT will be added anyway.

P.S: I just read that you managed to get VC to refund you, thank goodness! I bought something on Amazon.UK at the end of December and I didn't pay any extra VAT. So it seems as though it does start from Jan 1st.

Its so depressing, because one of my real joys was hunting for Vintage Hermes bags on vestiaire, I used to avoid the US sellers because of import tax but now I actually cant buy anything!
Even if I brought from a UK seller (which I did in this case) I prefer the goods to go via Vestiare for peace of mind (they alerted to to some 'not as described' goods a couple of times where very good condition items were in fact badly beat up) which means I'll be stung with the VAT as no Hermes item is below 1k thats a lot of money for nothing.
I've been saving to buy a pre-loved HAC but at 5-6k + Vat its now become impossible to consider so I guess I need to wait until I can travel again and try the french vintage shops and carry the thing back as my handbag

Covetedclassics is based in US and Eclarieatelier is based in spore. just sharing personal experience

Thanks for posting your experience. I just checked out covetedclassics on IG, but it seems like fairly typical reseller price ranges for NIB and preowned to me. I would not say they are great prices, but it’s good to know you were happy with their service and quality :)
