Hm good to know - i didn't consider you'd have to ship the bag to her in another country.

Do you know of any reputable IG sellers based in USA? I'm interested both to purchase a preloved bag from USA (avoid dealing with customs) and also have references for when I do want to rehome.

I’ve only sold through FP and Ann’s Fabulous Finds. I’ve found them both easy to work with.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I asked them, I can only pay with PayPal, she said if I am happy to pay the PayPal fee, she can accept PayPal payment.

I made an appointment with Ruelamode to view a bag. It’s a seasonal colour therefore uncommon. Hence I wanted to get a sense of the colour. I was very lucky to be served by the owner herself Sherral Ng Wan Ying. She answered my queries with a tone and look on her face “You mean you don’t know?” When I was done I returned the bag to her and said I will have a think about it. To which she then rolled her eyes when she thought I had turned my back towards her. I caught that and asked her if she was expecting me to buy the bag right away. She said yes usually when people asked to view the bag they will buy it if there’s no flaws. My response to her was that I didn’t know that’s how she runs her business. BTW I had taken only a grand total of 5 mins of her time.

She is from a privileged background and I guess that makes her feel she has a right to treat people with distain. Very disgusted with her stinking attitude.

luckily for me I managed to find another reseller with the same Kelly. Not going to give business to a poor mannered snob.

@Love Of My Life Thank you! I am hesitant already so really apprecaite the input.

Re. USA resellers, I know of the biggies - Fashionphile, Real Real (but they often don't allow returns), Ann's Fab Finds, Prive Porter, Yoogis) but are there any other good USA resellers that allow returns? I could be looking for what I want for a lonnnggg time so I'm hoping to expand my search radius, hence eBay... but don't love eBay in general!

You are welcome.
The Real Real doesn't usually accept returns unless the item turns out to be fake or totally misrepresented,
so I would opt for a seller who would accept a return.
Have you explored any of the auction houses?
I'm not sure if Madison Avenue Couture will accept a return, but there are a couple of posters who have
had luck with them for a bag in top notch condition.
There still might be a updated list here on tPF that would mention some other sellers...try a search
& of course you know always to have your bag authenticated..
Good luck finding what you are looking for.. It will come your way & patience does pay off.

Auction houses absolutely do not take returns. You'd have to have a huge misrepresentation for that to happen.

Basically if buying from overseas be prepared for 10% duty and factor that in. You can get hit for more. You also can not be billed at all...but you cannot be certain. Also be aware of your state's use tax laws.

Underdeclaring a package is contrary to regulations and as your potential seller noted you will only be insured for the lower amount....really don't recommend this.

@Love Of My Life Thank you - yes, I have looked at auction houses and MAC but I just don't want to bother without returns as a choice. Too many things can be weird/wrong with a preloved item!

@QuelleFromage Thank you as well! I appreciate the 10% duty estimate and reminder of Use Tax. Totally had forgotten about that. I was very put off by the seller's offer to undervalue (red flag!) so glad to know my radar wasn't wrong!

Your radar was spot on IMO about under valuing an item.. Not a good sign at all..
It sounds as if you are looking for a rather "specific" item.. Auction houses at times receive the "unexpected"
Obviously if you can see the item IRL it makes a huge difference as descriptions can be vague, but
I necessarily would not rule out an auction house ..of course their is a buyer's premium which has to be factored in as well
Again, hoping you can find what you are looking for...

@Love Of My Life Yep I'm looking for a couple of things - I have parameters of what I'm hoping for but I am open to sizes and styles (like I'd be ok with either HAC or B in the right leather/hardware) so I'm not so ultra specific, but definitely not randomly browsing unless I come across something really special. I don't think I want anything that badly enough to pay a big premium so patience is my friend!

Hope this helps:
I have purchased older or vintage H bags from Japanese resellers, shipped to CA through Japan Post and USPS here. Usually I had to go to my local PO to pay the duty before USPS released the items. I’ve never done the exact calculation but I think it was around 8% of declared value which was my purchase price. None of the resellers I buy from has ever suggested under declaring.
I’ve not experienced any hassles nor been disappointed by the items but I don’t do ultra high $ purchases with international online resellers.
I’ve also purchased from Collector Square in Paris, one purchase was shipped to me through UPS and they do collect the duty. I don’t remember the exact % but it was under 10%. The bag was less than $4000.

if you want to look at more US resellers: Rebag accepts returns albeit a very short window and also has a buyback program like Fashionphile.

Ssarahhong, thank you so very much for posting about your negative experience with Sherral Ng Wan Ying at Ruelamode. Since this reseller is well known, it is helpful to hear the details about your experience.

One eye-roll from Sherral Ng Wan Ying and I would have walked out the door without even one word, just the sound of the door swinging shut in my wake. Have a strict rule that is always followed in my family, we do NOT do business with people whom we do not like <yes, incorrect double-negative grammar>

I have had a couple of good experiences with Madison Avenue Couture. The only bags they don’t take as returns are those that are new or pristine. They accept only bags in extremely good condition, and will often have promotional coupons. Also, I paid nonsales tax, as my purchases were out of state online. With the 10% off sale and no sales tax, I saved $3000, bringing the price far under what Fashionphile was charging for the exact bag in substandard condition. Communication was always prompt and friendly (not excessively friendly or chatty, but perfectly cordial), and shipping was quick and free with Fed Ex.

Good to know - I'll consider MAC more seriously going forward!
