Treatment in Hermes Stores

Hi! I’m going to the Hermès riverside square NJ location for the second time on Saturday. I tried on a clic h but didn’t buy the first time because I knew I was receiving it as a gift, but I’m going to buy a twilly. It seems like the perfect entry level item. But I’m nervous from all the stories I’ve heard that the SA won’t be nice/ interested because it’s a small sale. Does anyone have a good experience to share from this location or any advice?
I went there a couple of times and they are very nice. Don't feel intimidated - if you show genuine interest in a product, you'll be fine. If you receive bad service from a particular person - go to someone else. That's what I did at Madison.

So how did it go?

just went to the Boston store and bought a belt kit and bag strap. staff on the first floor were quite nice. SA in leathers was a bit colder but willing to help and answer questions. definitely didn't seem interested in building a relationship or asking if I was looking for anything else.

I’m sorry about your experience at Bolyston. If you need a name of a SA, PM me...

Well, being a long time, regular customer at a store gets you a lot. Some of us find it very enjoyable to shop like this. Others prefer to try any store they happen on. That's absolutely fine too but then one cannot expect the same level of familiarity, special bag offers, A La Carte and event invites. We didn't coin the phrase, it's what the brand apparently wants. I for one never knew how it worked, TPF didn't exist for me then, so it did progress rather naturally. Anxious teen hook ups probably don't last as long as many Hermes relationships.

No doubt there are perks for regular clients. It is a traditionally French way of shopping where a small boutique knows the customers taste and will get in touch when something suitable arrives. However, I do think this needs to be allowed to develop organically over time with a little bit less angst. Also depending on where people live it may not be a realistic prospect.

These two posts are not that different in that they are both from customers who are both long term patrons of Hermes.

Regardless of whatever brand, product or service, it is nice to go to the same company where you get to know the staff and vice-versa. Hopefully you build up confidence and have good transactions with people you know. But as ladysarah describes these relationships develop organically, from regular clients.

Her and my comments related to people more concerned with developing a relationship with an SA with a view to future preferential treatment, and in the context of this forum, namely being offered a Birkin or a Kelly.

These are not people enjoying and wishing to purchase a range of Hermes merchandise. People who visit the stores and get to know the staff and buy this and that do build up a genuine relationship; they get more widely know in the stores they visit and do not suffer the angst of betrayal so frequently experienced by posters on this forum when an SA leaves, fails to answer an email or never offers a quota bag.

I can see why some may be anxious and full of angst. Despite perhaps wanting to be a regular customer, some do not have the response they are waiting for. Especially with the demand and exposure of the Birkin and Kelly now. Mentioning the bags straight off can also be a mistake in a way. Times have changed and I notice reading this forum that Hermes stores don’t seem to want up start or maintain regular customers coming in even in Paris. Thus I can see why some good customers would be anxious when their long time SA leaves. I have friends who have experienced this after being good customers for years.
Have to say that being the naive tourist, I too asked for bags outright without knowing anything and got 2 Bitkins and Kelly in a year without any other purchases or any nasty reactions. I doubt this occurs as easily anymore. Some customers may start out this way and end up appreciating a much wider Hermes universe. They just may not get the chance to.
