Treatment in Hermes Stores

SAs do have a lot of experience 'reading customers' and a lot might depend on how they read your intentions. They will not be correct every time.

He wasn’t correct about me but I didn’t buy from him. Should have pulled a Pretty Woman moment

Edited to say.. that this is irrelevant because I’m still just wondering what the policy is. I guess the answer is employee discretion?

I don't think H has a company policy that applies across the board for this circumstance, or most others. Like people have said, different stores, different SAs, different, SMs, different customers -- different experiences.

This is what I was wondering about, thanks! I found him extremely rude in general and felt he just did not want to make the sale. He handed me the bag and didn’t say another word to me. I asked him questions about the bag and he just said he didn’t know. I’d like to say something about it the SM but before I do, I was wondering what their policy is. This is helpful though, thank you!

Thanks for the reply, but that’s not what I’m asking. I’m wondering if it’s a company policy that you can’t try your things in the bag, irrespective to whether you’re about to make the purchase or not. Maybe I’m about to make the purchase and I walked in there ready to buy- that’s not the point. Just wondering what their official policy is.

I’ve been able to put my items like wallet, keys, etc. into a bag to see how heavy it is loaded up. It probably just depends on your SA and the relationship you have with him/her, and whether they think you are serious about buying the bag.

I imagine I didn’t look serious as I waltzed in with a baby stroller, and certainly wasn’t dressed the part that day since I haven’t slept through the night in not sure how long. He’s lucky I brushed my teeth :yucky: but I was serious about the purchase and it’s unfortunate it wasn’t interpreted that way.

Just wanted to test out a wallet, not an onion :giggle:

I agree- it depends on the situation and SA. I’m usually careful about not placing small items into a bag I’m trying unless I’m close to 98% sure I want the bag. The SA will make the first move by asking if I want to put my personals in to determine the weight and fit of a bag. Lol, on the flip side I’ve had experiences where an SA looked offended that I actually touched the bag!

I'm sorry you weren't taken seriously! Judging a book by its cover is definitely an imperfect exercise to say the least.

Hi! I’m going to the Hermès riverside square NJ location for the second time on Saturday. I tried on a clic h but didn’t buy the first time because I knew I was receiving it as a gift, but I’m going to buy a twilly. It seems like the perfect entry level item. But I’m nervous from all the stories I’ve heard that the SA won’t be nice/ interested because it’s a small sale. Does anyone have a good experience to share from this location or any advice?

That is not so
If you go shopping with confidence, that you have a right to be there, show a general interest and knowledge of Hermes you should have a good experience. Some people treat SAs as if they are servants, they have bad experiences.
SAs have enough common sense to know that the modest purchaser of today can become the big spender next of tomorrow.
