I suppose the question then is, do other stores treat you like this as well?
As a young-ish female, I have to admit when I walk into most high end stores I feel like I have to try harder to "prove my worth" by showing my brand knowledge etc, and I think this is largely because of my age (and them probably thinking I'm not going to be a worthwhile customer). I find I'm looked down upon alot in Chanel- much more so than any Hermes. I have also received awful, snobby service in many mid to high range clothing boutiques.
Of course, as soon as you buy something in any store, the customer service miraculously seems to improve, because they now know you're worth their effort![]()
I have to say that as a younger shopper, I've received significantly worse treatment at several Hermes boutiques than at any other high-end store. This includes waiting 15+ minutes to be greeted and asked if I need help, while the SAs are not doing anything (chatting with each other, walking around adjusting display bags slightly, etc.), and watching several SAs rush to help an older, more dressed-up customer the minute that customer walked over. At other high-end stores, I am at least greeted and assisted within a couple minutes...

Feel the same way as Meg. I shop at two Hermes boutiques, one on the West Coast, and the other on the East Coast. At first, it was a daunting experience. But over time, I found an SA in each with whom I formed strong relationships and have been content ever since. Just takes time and patience.Well if it is any consolation, before finding an SA that I clicked with I too was ignored more often than not. I am older and mostly well dressed. Now they know me at my local Hermes store and I am greeted promptly. Once they get to know you I am sure you will get better service.
I just had a mini Oprah experience at a store. I asked if a particular item came in a different size. She said "Yes but it's $800 and I don't think you want to spend that much." Excuse me????? (and actually I don't now).
