Treatment in Hermes Stores

Wow, I read through all 126 pages of this thread! My conclusion is there are definitely rude people out there, but I also think that the international customer base gives room for misunderstandings with all of the different cultures traveling through stores. I've been many, many places, so I understand the perceptions that can be given/taken by different backgrounds.

Needless to say, I am almost shocked by how many people here are literally hounding stores just for a Birkin or Kelly. Being fairly new to Hermes, I'm just excited to see a wallet, Ulysse, or scarf. I ooh, and aah over the B/K reveals here, but I haven't seen one that would make me personally jump for joy (yet). People on a mission for one item may encounter varying degrees of what they perceive to be rudeness from the H stores, but it's probably not the case.

My recent visit to Hermes (not the Garden Party visit), was actually very comforting. The previous "issue" I spoke of when I felt the SA turned cool because of my hesitancy to purchase the Garden Party seemingly smoothed itself out. However, I did find out that she was never my true SA...and someone else whom helped me previously actually was my actual "assigned" SA. I felt that up to the Garden Party incident, they were all warm and kind, and helpful in many ways. My last visit notwithstanding. I'm not sure what it is about my visits, but even though it's a huge tourist area, I usually end up there when it's very quiet and not many customers. This particular visit, I was specific about things I wanted held for me, and they politely asked that I "please come right away", so as not to have the items on hold for too long. It worked out for everyone because I decided I didn't want the items they held for me, but saw something else of interest that I immediately snatched up. In the meanwhile, another customer came to purchase what I declined.

Even with the GP issue, I didn't feel that I was treated poorly in the H store; I don't expect bad treatment either. Or perhaps, I don't attribute rudeness to the fact that people think I'm poor. I don't care if folks think I can't afford something...it truly doesn't matter to me.

I was just at Hermes in King of Prussia right after Christmas and everyone was very nice. I went desperately in search of a canvas strap for a vintage Kelly 28 that I've yet to purchase (lol, still on the hunt for a perfect vintage red K). Anyway, I was told that it would take up to a year to order one. Then the manager came over and told me the same thing, however, I think she saw how disappointed I was and asked me what color I was looking to order. I said red or black and then she said wait I may have a red one in the back and voila, she brought out a red canvas strap!!! So no waiting on the canvas strap. Now hopefully with the help of the fabulous bababebi and H authenticators here on TPF, I'll find my perfect vintage K soon. Otherwise my husband says we should stop in Hermes when we're in Paris this spring and hopefully we'll find a beautiful red K there :yahoo:

I remembered I had a very bad experience in london bond st boutique .. He was a 30 yr old guy..I was looking for a bearn/ kelly wallet but as some of you may know ..london H store has the worst reputation for customers service and I wasn't expecting A class treatment but definitely not ignorance for 25 mins and eye ball rolling .. I was really upset but then again I have never experience any good service in london anyway...

I tried to be nice to them but they are too snobbish to even check or answer or look at me... And I am not spending tons of money for that kind of attitude that is why I never buy anything from london boutiques anymore ..

I find the American SAs are much better ...at least they smile at me when I enter the shop..

You know that canvas strap is a UNICORN!!!! You are so lucky about that find. Getting a vintage or new Kelly will be much easier than the strap.

BTW, I've only heard nice things about the KOP store.

This may sound bad, and I don't mean it to, but I am moving away from Hermes and towards something a little more mass market.

I just find it very frustrating, the process of finding a particular item and then getting "permission" to purchase it for an incredibly high price. I'll continue with the silks, of course, but the leather goods are just too difficult.

If I had time to be calling around trying to find a Ulysse "in any shade of blue" then I wouldn't be making what I make.

I find it much easier to go into a shop, and say "I would like to purchase that." Maybe see it online first, check it out in person, have it ordered into the store, and purchase it.

Louis Vuitton is now making a lot of understated leather goods in similar leathers (taurillon, their version of swift, etc) and they will offer you a custom bag that will be half the price and arrive 16 times faster than a birkin. I love my Bs, don't get me wrong, but I have the colors I want and am not interested in pursuing more.

The SAs treat me kindly, of course, but the difficulty in buying is just too frustrating. I know it's not their fault but constantly being told "no" is too frustrating, it takes it from "thrill of the chase" to "what is the point?"

One thing that Hermes offers that LV does not is spa service.

I've thought about ordering a HM bag but the lack of spa service turned me off.
I do agree with you with respect to the ease of purchasing at LV.

This is my local store so I'm glad you had a good experience there. I have also only had good experiences there so it was shocking to read about the horrors that some people experience in their store. I was there last week and I spoke with Cameron a little bit and I agree that he seemed like someone I would be happy to work with if I didn't already have an SA there.
I too shop at the Tyson's store but it seems like there are quite a few new SA s and I was told that my SA ( who was always so helpful) is no longer there. I was assigned a new SA , Darlene but she was very abrupt and dismissive when I spoke with her. The store manager crystal is very helpful though. Perhaps I'll try Cameron.

I have never had to spa an H bag-- I care for them myself mostly and have never needed repair.

Will LV not repair an HM bag? I would find that surprising.

Yes, there are quite a few new faces there. Was your former SA Ava? She was my SA; I loved working with her and was sad to hear that she no longer worked there. I was assigned a new SA which happened to be one I had previously worked with so I wasn't necessarily starting from scratch but I feel like I have to do the whole building a relationship all over again. I'm not familiar with Darlene or Crystal, but I can recommend Michael although he's part time (if he's still there), or Denise who is my current SA. Perhaps I'll see you at the store one day :)

Yes, Ava was my SA and I was sad to hear she left. I will look out for Denise or Michael when next I am there. I am anxiously waiting for a dogon rectoverso wallet I hope to be up there soon. Who knows maybe ill run into you when I finally get to pick it up.

So what you're saying is that I should have bought a lottery ticket that day :) Didn't someone already won the mega millions? Let's hope I'll land a red K 28 soon!

I love hermes leather...I had not so great service at Las Vegas. I had a horrible experience at City Center location. I was approaching to the entrance of the one in City Center mall location. When I was about to enter, a couple went out looking at me with disapproving disgusted look on me and my brother for no ligament reason. An SA was with the couple. She saw the couple look on us and look pissed at us after that. We enter the the store looking around with no hello and disinterested look. The same SA with the couple approach us with the rudest talk and gave a body language to get the F*** out. I left after that. No. Way. I. Am. Coming. Back. Their! :cursing:

I went to the one in the Bellagio location the next day. I had a so, so service. I am likely to return their if I go back to Las Vegas, since only one sales person approach me with a okay service. He was not as Rude as this lady that gave me the rudest experience in City Center.

I cannot imagine what would Beverly Hills would be like (My nearest H store). :push: Plan on one day of purchasing a Dogon wallet someday.
