I think perhaps your expectations may be a bit askew.......24/7 authentications? Is that promised anywhere? It has always been my understanding that the AT's get to each item when they can. I guess it would depend on their time zone, etc. as well as the time zone for the person requesting?

Yes, u totally missed it. That was not what zippie meant.

You misunderstood my post.

And it was quite straightforward, at least for me: making the point that things can go awry on the thread given that authenticators aren't on TPF all the time.

It takes some doing to read that as expressing expectations about the availability of authenticators.

Now who's misunderstanding.....my point was that the AT's are NOT on the forums all the time, therefore other's may step in when they shouldn't do so.

How you came to the idea of "expressing expectations or a judgement about the availability of authenticators" is totally your idea, not mine. My statement actually meant the opposite of what you said.

Au contraire: You mentioned Zippie's "expectations" (about the availability of authenticators online) as being "askew," which is a clear misreading of her post. Which I attempted to paraphrase--maybe competently, maybe not.

I think we all agree that authenticators are not on the forum all the time.

With the ATLV thread a few of us are trying to help by saying that you need a link and I've noticed few people respond with a simple thanks. No wonder authenticators get upset about people's attitudes!

**EDITED TO SAY: THE POST I WAS RESPONDING TO HERE HAS (PERHAPS PREDICTABLY) BEEN DELETED.**
--------------------------

I don't agree with most of what Hoosiertech said but I know where she's coming from with the comments.

I kinda do agree with what alansgail said in a way - it is easy to start a pile-on, in this forum in particular (ebay). I didn't perceive that comment as directed at any one individual.

I've also observed the overall dynamics that you're calling out, missbanff, but I'm not one to diagnose the cause; I doubt that any member is intentionally trying to instigate reactions from others (I could be wrong of course since I'm not directly involved).

There's some strong alliances from long-time members around here which I totally understand, but this also can sometimes come across to others as ganging-up on people. It can make the place a little uninviting at times. Of course, it is the Internet, and you need to have a thick skin out there. Opinions are often stated in very strong language - I'm guilty of this myself, but it can be off-putting in terms of the culture that's created on these threads. It can be dangerous to voice an alternate view.

Dunno, but I think what we're seeing here again is just the current manifestation of that same phenomenon that happens a lot.

PS: If anyone wants to see rude/defensive/argumentatitve posts, you can check out the AT Valentino thread, especially in the April timeframe. I was frankly surprised that those are still standing (which may be exactly the point that missbanff is arguing?).

Hey guys. Once again, this thread has become about beating each other up which only hinders the needed AT evolution.

This thread was created to help make this community run better for everyone, including those who donate their time to helping others with their knowledge and generosity.

Please keep personal attacks against each other off the board.

Also, just because you do not see action taken when members behave poorly, it does not mean nothing's been done. Have some faith that the mods (also volunteers) are working hard to sort through posts, protect the community, and apply warnings as necessary.

Of course, we miss things, and rely heavily on member reports to stay informed. This is a huge forum, so we do need your help by way of reporting rather than getting involved and creating more for us to sort out.

Thanks for your passion for tPF!

I understand the tPF policy and it's certainly Megs'/Vlad's right to operate their site any way they wish, and I also appreciate the motivation to try to keep this a nice/friendly environment. I do believe that it's coming from the right place.

However to me, reporting a post because I don't like what someone said or their tone just seems so kindergarten. If the owners of tPF want to have a sanitized nice/friendly place then it's up to them to figure out how to make that happen - and not look to the members themselves to police it via reporting posts.

I am personally not one who reports posts for these reasons. I have no problems reporting spam posts and the like, but I just feel like it's running to Mommy to report a post that hurts my feelings or could be deemed somehow offensive.

It's the Internet. We're adults.
