I've been noticing in the Chanel thread posters are getting really bad about not following the requests for proper pics. It's gotten to be rare when someone actually posts correctly and we don't need to ask them to resubmit. I really don't know how they expect an accurate opinion otherwise.

We try to be nice and friendly, but it does wear on you after a while. I can't imagine being in a position where you have been an authenticator for years, asking people for the proper info. I can see needing a break.

I've noticed this myself and can't imagine how frustrated all of you must be.

Yes, poor Belle don't blame her at all for taking a break. I guess that nothing has changed.

Wow!

After reading through this whole thread, what drama...

Too many taking this way too personally and seriously.

I thought the whole point of online forums was for people share ideas and opinions with each other.

Those requesting authentication opinions should take them as just that "opinions"

Proper authentication is tricky business with high dollar items under the best of circumstances, but expecting 100% accurate authentication with a few pictures from some website is unrealistic.

If you want high confidence authentication your likely going to have to pay for it and it surely can't be fully trusted with pictures alone.

Post counts mean little really, I post very little but have touched literally 1000's of bags over the years. I have complete confidence in my authentication skills especially with certain brands and models. But I am reluctant to offer my opinion in the authenticate this threads because of the attitudes of the "official authenticators" and the inflated expectations of some of the requesters.

I hope these forums never fully lose that community feel. Sharing thoughts, ideas and opinions is what it is all about.

When members submit authentication requests and provide all the information we require, sometimes we still have a problem with sellers' names showing up in a search. Often when a member copies it from a listing, it will show up as a link, and therefore won't come up in a search. It is helpful for us to be able to see a history of authentications for a particular seller, so if you could do something that would make these show up in a search, that would be great. Possibly the request form that is being discussed would solve this problem.

As someone who has devoted thousands of posts and a crapload of time trying to help others not buy a fake, your damn right I take it "personally" and "seriously".

I thought the whole point of online forums was for people share ideas and opinions with each other.

There are probably a hundred other threads to share thoughts and opinions. Why would someone who is not well versed in a particular brand want to clog up an authentication thread with "thoughts" and "opinions"?

That same exact thing is stated on the first page of most authentication threads. Unfortunately, many people, including you, don't bother reading page 1 and use the opinion of the authenticator in deciding whether to make a purchase. Call me crazy, but that's a lot of responsibility.

Actually, there are several authentication businesses that do just that. Although they tend to require more than "a few" pictures, spoken as someone who has used two such services. In contrast to your statement, it was not costly.

Bingo. If I were making an authentication request, I wouldn't be trusting of someone who has been here less than 2 years with a low post count. That's me, though. It's also interesting that with your confidence, your very first post was for an authentication request. .:smile1:.

Again, Wow !!

Kind of an example of what I meant by taking it personal. :p

I surely was not aiming my thoughts at any one person or comment. More the thread as a whole. But you certainly wasted no time in attacking me personally. I surely was not trying to insult anyone.

I applaud whomever has taken the time and effort to help those looking for advice or opinions in any of these forums, especially in authentications. But snarky comments and elitist attitudes are not very becoming and very rarely useful.

I have used many of the familiar online services also to authenticate certain items I do not have as much experience with. As a professional seller I understand the importance of correctly representing the items we offer. I have no problem paying a few bucks to get it right.

I am very busy with my business and don't have the time for many posts, but I do truly enjoy the variety of topics and insights on this forum. I have received much more from this community than I have given.
