To reglaze or not to reglaze my wallet

Really?? Mine is a florin and I can't imagine how they would take it apart to reglaze it [emoji38], the only thing I hope is they would glue the edges so it doesn't look like its peeling when the glazing came off.

I'm sorry to hear about your billfold, isn't it weird of all the things they skimp on the have to skip glazing? Lol I doubt it barely cost them anything yet it's the very thing that's holding these wallets up.

Crossing my fingers!![emoji6]
Yeah lol. It doesn't bother me too much anymore though because as many tPFers pointed out it was bound to get this way sometime and I'm going to have to pay for reglazing at one point or another.

I know right, DE is very tough! This one is from 2008 so I guess it's normal wear and tear, but lately glazing on new lv item is just abysmal. I saw a multiple wallet from the v collection, the glazing is so thin!!! Considering the price hike they do every year at least they have to make this right[emoji35]

Yup totally agree with you. their wallets are nice but the glaze on the wallets aren't so... Well I guess like buying a car, you need to do some maintenances from time to time... I babied my wallets now I might *bash* them... since I have nothing to loose... (J/K)

Hello, just to add to the conversation.. I sent in my Elise wallet for re-varnishing (that's what they call it in Malaysia instead of "glaze") of the edges. Should have taken a picture of the wear and tear, basically the varnish/glaze was coming off on the corners where the canvas/leather bends revealing the reddish colour underneath, similar to yours. It will cost me MYR360 (Roughly US$84 at a 4.3 conversion rate) and will take 8 to 12 weeks as they send it over to Singapore for repair. Thought the price should be standardized internationally but guess not. I've been using that wallet since 2012/2013 non-stop every day, hopefully when I get it back I'll be able to use it for many more years. Another wear and tear I noticed is the hardware looking silver-ish in the center, like the brass plating rubbed off. Does that happen to all LV hardware? I only have the wallet so I don't really know.

Hope yours come back looking brand spanking new!

Hi OP, yes you need to re-glaze again and again (unless you're lucky).
I think you should just save your money for a new wallet.

My monogram canvas billfold needs re-glazing as well as my de french wallet, it will be my 2nd time to re-glaze if I do. My last re-glazing was 2011...I rarely used the billfold after that, it was just in its protective cloth (coz I was just at home after giving birth 2012 ) but the glazing started peeling off the sides. I'm just using it now (monthly rotation with my other wallets) even with the loose/hanging glaze :nogood:
This rarely happens if you didn't use it, unless you store it in a closet that is not climate controlled and therefore has a high amount of humidity.

Update! So I got the wallet a few days ago and started using it again. But after 3 days I notice a peeling on the bottom part thats bended,The red linings inside is showing as well. Considering how much the charge for this to peel off after 3 days in unacceptable right? I went to the LV store to complain about it and they tried to fix it by heat or something to reattach it, but the next day it started peeling off again! So today I went to another lv store, the manager is much more accommodating and deemed its defect so its sent back to shanghai for repair. [emoji19] at least 2 more weeks waiting

Does this happen with other brands of wallets or is it just
LV wallets? I have never had a problem with my older Coach wallets, they have lasted for years.

I know what you mean. I had a Dooney wallet for 15 yrs and no problems until recently. I purchased a clemence empreinte wallet back in March 2015 and I think I started using about April 2015.and there is a little tear in the glazing and it will cost me about 210+tax to fix it.the loose stitches they will fix for free.

Hi, I realize this thread is old, but can you tell me how much it cost you to reglaze your bifold and French wallet? I have a Bifold DE and French Monogram that needs reglazing as well. Everything else is perfect on the French wallet, but one side of it is starting to show. Is it mandatory to reglaze the entire wallet, or can we choose to only reglaze the side that is exposed, assuming that it is a cheaper repair option?

I don't know about the current price. Sometimes your SA may wave the repair fee (especially when the item is newer or when you are a frequent LV buyer). The best thing is to bring your wallet to the store for an estimate. And yes, they would reglaze the entire wallet.

I know that. I have had quite a few LV pieces repaired in the past. I also had my zippy coin purse wallet reglazed entirely for free because it fell w/in the 2 year time period. I was just hoping shyviolet would have more accurate estimates since she seems to reglaze her wallets regularly and she happens to have the same 2 styles I have in need of repair.

😃👍 best of luck.

Does reglazing a ZCW OM affect the integrity of the wallet? My wallet went in for reglazing and my SA didn't like how it turned out so she sent it back. It came back again and again she's not happy with it- it must be a really poor job. (I haven't seen it but I trust her judgement). How many times can a wallet be reglazed? I'm not sure of the process and what it entails.
I am so frustrated with the repair specialist who worked on it in Cali, (where it was sent) but happy my SA is working on it. Come on LV do the repair job right the first time....
I have been without my wallet for about 3 months!

Reglazing is a simple process and can be done over and over. It is very simple to do and if you do not want to send it to LV,
you could tackle it yourself. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009RSYOQ2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Professional Leather Edge Paint #2810

Thxs for the info, but my wallet is a year old so I won't attempt a fix on it quite yet as LV won't touch the item once I mess with it.
Btw- great video- have u tried this yet? If so can u show a pic. What color would u use on mono? Dark brown? Did u use gloss?

yes, I have, I would not reglaze a yr old wallet. I would take that to LV but a preloved one like the OP has that you do not have much into and do not want to spend the $ to have LV do it, I would not hestiate to do it myself. I used the brown. it does not need gloss, at least not the Fiebing brand anyway. This is one I am working on right now.
