I deep clean mine every week, it also rarely needs a good steam clean. I can barely see a difference after I get it back when they do it for me, LOL!
Maintenance . . . same thing. Any jeweler that sells you a ring will tighten prongs or whatever for you. I can't list these things as perks.
And I agree, I'd pick HW over Tiffany's in a heartbeat!

Here in the states, any jewelry store will clean your jewelry for free . . . I'm always surprised people consider at a plus for Tiffanys as it's not unique at all.

Yes, I don't understand why folks consider that a perk either. As a matter of fact, the only jewelry store I've ever been in that didn't offer to clean my rings for me is Tiffany. That's because they have horrible customer service and will only touch their own jewelry.

I would never consider buying an engagement ring at Tiffany. I feel like Tiffany is strictly an off-the-shelf mass-produced kind of mall jewelry store. They're for the most part unwilling to customize anything, and on the rare occasion that they do, it costs the customer dearly.

But an engagement ring is an important purchase, and for the person who wants a Tiffany ring, she should get a Tiffany ring.

Oh absolutely, I have NEVER had a Jeweler--well besides Tiffany's--not offer to do so.

I think it's hilarious that Tiffany's looks down on HW. They WISH they were as nice as HW.

LOL, yes, the SAs at my local Tiffany do look down on HW. One SA actually said to me, "Oh, well if you and your husband would have bought your bands here, you would have been able to have them cleaned here all the time! I don't think HW has a cleaning service!" :weird: I do love my SA though - he is incredibly helpful and DH likes him because they talk football all the time!

Other jewelers have cleaned my rings for free too. It's not a service unique to Tiffany's (even though they'd like people to believe this) nor do they do any special cleaning, AFAIK. Tiffany's is convenient for me now because it's the only jeweler in the mall.

My good friend walked into Tiffany's wearing shorts & what she called "casual" attire. The store was practically EMPTY, yet she was being ignored. Blatantly obvious.

It was only when she unzipped her jacket and rolled up her sleeves (she was wearing over $1 million in jewels) that not one, but ALL of the SA's ran over to assist her.

My friend is in the jewellery/diamond biz and it never ceases to amaze me how these uppity places judge you based on looks alone. We always have a good laugh when she talks about Tiff's and Cartier experiences. These places are in it for the $$$ only....they could care less if you buy or don't buy.....and heaven help you if you don't "look" your uppity best  you could be standing at that counter for a looooong, long time

See there's not a snowballs chance I'd leave my ring for cleaning that long. I don't trust Tiffany's far as I can throw them from poor experiences but it doesn't take a half hour to clean a ring if you didn't get food crammed in it or something.

i wouldn't leave my ring at tiffanys either.

I'm looking to buy an e-ring but i'm already engaged . it's a pretty aquamarine (my birthstone) ring i can wear on my right hand still. we are both buying it really lol
i would love a diamond e-ring but wouldnt stop wearing my original i love it .

well what does your fiance feel on tiffany vs otherwise?

I will say with Tiffany's it really depends on what SA you hit. Some are very pleasant and professional & some are complete rude a-holes where you wish you had some of that magical powder used at the end of "Beetlejuice"

Anyways......I've had great "Tiffany" experiences is select stores......one being in Vegas.

Unfortunately, a bad/rude SA can really ruin a potentially positive experience. But then.....that's when it becomes fun to ask for the Manager.

Tiffany's has always cleaned my ring in 10 minutes flat - this is big metropolitan areas (including the one in NY) and local suburban stores. I agree that it isn't a huge perk of the brand and that most places will do it for free. In terms of trusting them if they want 30 minutes to keep the ring - well each ring has the carat size engraved on the inside band and has a serial number which they take down and put on a sheet for you and when you pick it up you can see if they match if you are paranoid.

I wouldn't get caught up in the HW > Tiffany etc debate, they each of their pros and cons. HW cost only slightly more when we were shopping than Tiffany but T&Co threw in certain perks so we ended up going there (the HW prices though were discounted. Regular price they were more). To me, HW is really great for stones 3 carat and above and very high color/clarity, Graff is in the similar range. I agree that HW has fabulous service, and you have to deal with way fewer crowds when shopping there and services.

DH bought my e-ring at a local jeweler and I couldn't be happier. It's a basic round solitaire at a little over 1 ct and 6 prong platinum band setting. Everyone mistakens it for a Tiffany ring! I agree with Swanky, get what you love rather than get caught up in the labels. ;)

after alot of thought.... i'm going to just try on rings and find something that jumps out at me.i guess its silly to ask these questions when i dont know what 1 or 2 carats willl look like on MY finger . if i get one oneday i will post pics :)

yeah, me too! my jeweler cleans my mother's pear e-ring for me anytime i go in there for free—and of course, she didn't buy it from him. i don't need the tiffany box when at the end of the day, that ring will be on my finger, not sitting in the box.

just like when we purchased my cartier LOVE bangle on ebay. we saved over $1,200 buying it pre-owned and yes, having it come with the screwdriver and CoA was a pre-requisite for us, having the box was not. i wear it everyday and never take it off, why do i need the box?

when you bought the cartier love bangle off ebay was there anyway to know for sure it was authetic. i would consider doing this if there is a way to know for sure. and i would love the cartier love bangle... great choice :D

oh, absolutely. i did lots and lots of research before our search, so i knew what to look for with authenticity, with the stamp, etc.

luckily, with this seller, he posted many pictures and was very helpful and answered all of my questions before we decided to purchase from him.

he purchased it at an estate sale so it was only a little under 2 years old when i bought it so it wasn't vintage or anything like that. he also had it polished from cartier (and had documentation to prove this) before listing on ebay so it looked brand new.

and most importantly, i paid with paypal so if there was a question with authenticity, i knew paypal would cover me.

as soon as i got it, we went to vegas not long after receiving it so i immediately took it to cartier to confirm its authenticity. and of course, the CoA helped a great deal as well.
