Thoughts on this diamond......

I have done a little comparison shopping. I was able to take this diamond into natural light and it SPARKLED like crazy. I currently have a 3ct VS2 G color and side by side the 4ct looked whiter, shinier and sparkled more than mine.....just gets so confusing! ;P
The reason that I asked you for additional information is because I'm a member of Pricescope. I was going to try to run the numbers through a cut anaysis tool to assist in determining the brilliance, fire and scintillation of this diamond. As a "cut nut," this is one of the ways that I try to help people find an outstanding stone. I didn't mean to confuse matters:confused1: Choose what makes your heart sing, unless you want to join the the cut club. We often help people find beautiful stones, without an outrageous pricetag:drool:

If you are serious, please join us on Pricescope and we will do our best to help you find a winner:tup: I'd like to help myself get a 3 ct RB, but sadly it's not in my budget:hysteric:
Someone just scored a 5ct beauty for $100k...sweet mother of the diamond deities:wtf:

I personally think that both the look and paper matters in the long run realistically...and with the whole price thing...its up to the individual to pass on one thing for another gain, depending what one wants....

Some sacrafice color for more weight, some weight for color....some for the perfect stone....it all doesnt matter to the heart.

But what most have said does have merit, J is with a bit of color....and if you see enough of the more colorless stones, there is a big difference in the way the light plays and hits the rainbows...not only in terms of sparkle but a more translucent gleam.....Ive seem this one celebrity with 2 ct studs each ear and I totally gasped at how clear and translucent the colors showed......now I realize what ppl say about quality, much more than I had paid attention to before.

Most stores dont carry much of this quality, and dont prefer to show it to everybody, just those that they feel will appreciate and buy it. I have one jewler that tells me the prices of these colorless stones and never shows the stones to me, and rightly so.

Anyway thats not what's pratical to me, so I stay more along the lines of eye clean and design, and it is true that ppl do not look over the stone quality of a person's jewlery...just the wow factor and seems like this one has it......just my 2 cents.....

I've seen some beautiful RB J's that face up very white when set. The "if," being if the J is an ideal cut stone--ideal as defined by the AGS, which has the toughest standards for cut in the industry. I would not, however, choose a J in a princess or step-cut stone, where the color is more prominently displayed.

:smile1: I'm friends with one of the "Ideal J" gals that posts regularly on Pricescope and her ideal-cut 2+carat J is VERY white when you see it in person. The awesome symmetry of her stone allows for maximum light return AND scintillation, which results in not just lots of bright white, but also flashes of rainbow colors! It's delicious! So SwankyMama, please keep H through J stones in mind (as long as you strive for ideal or excellent cut) and you might be surprised at what a honkin' stone you could get for your budget! The best thing to do is to visit jewelers in person (who carry GIA or AGS stons) and look at stones of different cuts/colors/clarities with your own eyes.

what did you decide?

DH found a stone today in I color and I complained the whole way to the store like a brat:hysteric:
"blah, blah, I only want F or G. . .blah, blah"
Compared it to a G and they looked identical in color. I wasn't smart enough to turn them both upside down and look at them from the side, but I will tomorrow.
But looking from the top down the I reflected zero yellow and wasn't really any warmer than the G. I was surprised, and humbled ;)

Thanks Swanky for thinking of me. Still am undecided and checking out different stones. The problem with the original stone is it's 6 1/2 hrs away (we found it on vacation). I'm the type of person that likes to look at ANYTHING that's a big purchase over and over again until I decide. ;) So it's making it harder to actually compare. I would love to find a store that has a 4ct in maybe a G and then one in an I or J, so I could put them side by side. The J that we were looking at had NO yellow to it and I was quite surprised to find out that it was a J.

How fun that you found a diamond that you liked, (and were surprised by the color comparisson). Finding the "right" diamond is like finding a needle in a haystack (atleast to dh and I). Just when you think you know what you want, and think you have the "knowledge" that you need, you get confused ALL over again! :hrmm:

Have fun picking out your diamond...what size are you looking at? I think you said a 3ct??? Maybe you can go bigger now that you know you can go below a F or G color!! :graucho:

it's 1 3.68 :D DH wanted to buy me a close to perfect 2.5 and I was hoping for a 3carat. Then he found this one and I'm hoping we're not just mesmerized by the size. I'm going to look at it again today. . . for the 3rd time in 24 hours:shame:
I compared it to slightly better cuts and colors but they were slightly smaller. . . hard to comapre. But I did go to that J color thread on Pricescope KristyDarling mentioned and it's AMAZING!!!!!

^^Fun, you'll have to let us know what you end up doing. What kind of setting are you thinking of? We've been looking at 4-4.5cts and you're right, it is hard to decide if you're just "wowed" by the size. Whenever we look at diamonds now we request to look at 2 of pretty close to the same size in order to compare!! ;P

I want a very plain platinum Tiffany setting. I want to collect a bunch of fun anniversary bands in different thicknesses, different dimaond shapes and colors to stack with it and change out, or wear alone when traveling.
I hate to put a stone that large in a busy setting, I want it to be the focal point. I may like a thin diamond band though for it.

^^I agree. Right now my 3ct is in a plain cathedral band and I wear it with a diamond band (w/ovals and baguettes). I'm looking at a thin pave diamond wedding ring and band (and the band won't sit flush to the ring....LOVE that look) . I do like the look of mismatched bands (to the wedding ring), so then I could still wear my other diamond band. =) Can never have too many options!
