I always thought Etoupe was French for Taupe. I have an Evelyne 29 III in Etoupe and love it. It's a warm neutral that I wear a lot during the winter. Toupee (guess that's what that is in the photo) is "Postiche" in French per Google Translate.
I believe it means tow. It's a waste by-product from hemp, which is what's featured in the picture.

My understanding is that it comes from the French étoupe which means: fibrous component produced during the scutching and / or combing of bast textile fibers, in particular flax and hemp (I am translating form a French dictionary). The one translation I have found in English is “cotton waste”. The pic above is this, not a toupee.

I didn’t know taupe was an English word? In French taupe literally means ’mole’. But étoupe is something else.
I have just asked my French bf to confirm the above as French is not my first language!

yes in French Taupe means mole (the animal) but we also use it for the taupe colour (roughly the same colour as a mole actually !)

Ohhh, so that's what that is in the picture! Now I understand why my Evelyne looks so nice with all my winter sweaters. :hbeat: Thanks for sharing that, so cool learning where these color names actually originate.

I had a picotin in étoupe because I thought it would be a great neutral on my light, cooler toned skin. It's medium brown tone felt safe with my light colored wardrobe. and then I realized, with colors that actually make my heart skip a beat like rose sakura, nata, Bleu Brume etc, why would I ever be purchasing in Etoupe? It felt less pretty and more serious and bland. Almost like work attire. So, I sold it and dont miss it at all. Just glad I didnt buy a pricier bag in this color. Anyways, worst colors: rouge H (reminds me of dried blood lol), foin (curry or any other golden yellows), any neons, vert Amande, vert bosphore (any teals), and any almost blacks!
