The ridiculous feeling of wanting a bag you know will not work out for you.

I love everything about this Kate Spade bag but have absolutely no need for it. I live in the tundra and don’t venture out to beachy destinations enough. It’s a work of art that I’d probably just have on display to admire rather than carry it, and I really don’t have room for that kind of bag right now. Sigh.

This is a fun thread. For me, it seems to be most of the handbags in my closet that i obseesed over and had to have then practically never use.

I tracked down a prada fairy bag in great condition after many sleepless nights researching and still haven't used it once. Same with many others and i realize i might actually enjoy obsessing/purchasing more than actually using if that makes sense. Or maybe it's more that i enjoy the sense of accomplshment after coveting something then once i have it's like ok now what.

Generally speaking, i would say clutches for sure. I think they always look pretty but seem so impractical. I mean who wants to hold their bag all night or be stuck trying to shove it under your armpit to free up your hands? ‍And then to have to set it down on table or on bar bc no way to hang it can be anxiety inducing for fear it will get dirty or something will spill on it.

Also, i would have to say hobos as for some reason the zipper on this shape bag always seems to be difficult and annoying to zip/unzip. And the slouchy shape just slumps over when you set it down. I have several and same challenge with nearly all. Still i am always attracted to hobo style and hasnt prevented me from buying but it should!

The exception to the slouchiness is the more structured fendigraphy which i also obsessed over but comes with its own set of problems as i am fearful to set down and risk damaging the hardware on the bottom. And don't get me started on the nano fendigraphy.... adorable but if can't fit a phone forget it for me. Even though phone usually in my hand this was a deal breaker for me. Same with the jimmy choo micro bon bon which i think is so cute and i love the handle on the micro but had to get the small even though didn't like handle as much and even that is pretty small and fits phone but does so awkwardly in my opinion.
I resonate with obsessing, capturing, and then never using. I think it’s the thrill of the chase for me

My friend commented while we were at lunch yesterday when i confessed about my most recent splurge that she thinks it's a source of dopamine for me and it made total sense.

I have joked about it being an "addiction" and have justified spending what i do on the fact that other people spend money on therapy, drugs, gambling, which i don't. I've known people to spend crazy money on other hobbies such as private lessons or travel sports for their children their entire lives only for them to quit once they become teenagers. Or have student loans or other major debts which i don't have.

It may be frivolous but the truth is it makes me happy, I'm not hurting anyone, I'm not waiting for a handout from anyone - noone has ever helped me and everything i have is bc I've earned the money to pay for it myself, it's not like i have to choose between paying my bills or basic necessities and handbags, and it really has in a way been both an activity/hobby and therapy for me. And i suspect that if i ever had to sell any of my bags, I could probably get at least close to what i paid if not more for most of them - but I've had the pleasure of using them. A decent "investment" if you ask me

Every so often, I consider getting a red handbag but I stop myself. They just look so sexy and bold! BUT red is not my color, sadly. My skintone just clashes with red so much that even a classic red lipstick looks ridiculous on me. I bought several cute red tops in the past and ended up selling or donating them all because it’s such an unflattering color on me.

This is a great thread. I’ve purchased so many bags b/c i loved them or was influenced in some way to buy them, even though i more or less knew they aren’t styles or colors that work for me. The biggest offender is hobos…i love them, but shoulder bags slip right off my shoulder and i just cannot carry them. I’ve been selling them en masse, at big losses. Lesson learned (i hope  ). I also need to stop buying clutches. I have so many. And never carry them, unless we go to dinner etc. so they are not functional daily carry bags…….buying bags just to have them in my collection, is a pattern i am determined to break! Hunting special bags can be an addiction, as @stacy_natalie said……

I agree with @maxroxxherhandbags , that fringe Kelly is  And u have the kind of style that allows it to be worn beautifully with so many outfits. The fringe adds such whimsy! The stingray Boy is a stunner too, i can see that with so many of your outfits. The reissues and veneta are such classics and in great colors.

Fantasy bags. The first bag is the cutest ever! I can actually see it fitting into many outfits. The question is, will anything fit in it?!

Well. This is me reaching for a clown nose as well, as I don't remember when I've last carried one of my medium shoulder carry totes and I just ordered a new one. :P
In the last year or so I've been favoring backpacks and my Coach Field totes with a single long shoulder strap. I think I carried my LC LP XL once this fall for school and that's it. So I def need one double strap tote more.
...And funny enough, I loved this one so much I got another one in the same style this fall. It's the Gweneth Work by Day Et. It's pretty much a cheaper version of a LC LP tote - although it doesn't have leather straps, it' s the same size as the LLH but more of a horizontal style which I actually like more than the deep LP tote.

It has some pockets and it's been an allround good bag. I got another one in a peach color quilted fabric for the winter. I use these for work, travel, running errands, shopping etc. The nylon one folds into nothing so it's easy to pack when I want an extra bag to take with me for travel.
So, maybe I was just needing a lightweight horizontal tote without even knowing it myself? I have enough of those bags I have to rummage through to find my stuff and I think I grew tired of that exact thing.

Well this was almost me buying a bag that made no sense but I fell for.
Too small to fit a phone and other items? Yes
In a style I already have? Yes
In a color I have? Also yes
But this was a red bag in gator and a tiny mini bag and just soooo cute!
I almost bought it , thankfully dh talked me off the ledge ( so far, I might get it in pink calfskin instead lol)😂

Also not me insisting I need bags that zip ontop and then buying multiple open top totes , one of which proceeded to fall off my shoulder and spill while traveling.....

Do you have pic of the bag(s) in question? Would love to see. And I apologize for laughing out loud at the image of the purse spilling out after you made exception to your own rule. :giggle:

Demellier New York Tote - It looks cool and reminds me of a cooler Birkin, but totes look massive on me. They look good on skinny, tall models, but I am neither skinny nor tall.
