The ridiculous feeling of wanting a bag you know will not work out for you.

Me three on the Massai. The Massai cut PM in GT is the only bag still on my wishlist. There was one for sale on TRR a few years ago. I had never seen one in the color so I had never thought about the style. I like to think about things and someone else snapped it up in 2 days. I wonder if it will live up to my dreams IRL or if it will be too saggy to suit me. But I have to find out.

Why do you not wear them after you buy them?
For me, it wasn’t even the sag or the “tricky” opening. I love the north-south shape and the more user-friendly Massai Cut just doesn’t give me the same butterflies.

I used my first Massai because it was black. The swift leather felt so luxe. I got the Massai GM and felt guilty about having 2 so I sold the black. But later realised the GM was too big for shortie me and I sold that too. The 3rd red one was too much of a pop of colour and although I kept that for years, I finally just accepted that the red was out of my comfort zone.

I’m really a black bag girl. This last one in Gold has a chance since it’s a neutral colour so I can carry it as a summer bag. A part of me is thinking that if I can find a Massai in black again then it will right all my wrongs.

I get ya. The right bag has to be the right color. Some times you have to kiss several frogs to find the prince.

I cannot speak for @Norm.Core , but I’ve hesitated on buying a preloved massai for precisely this reason. I believe it was the stunning photo of @More bags that pushed it back onto my radar.

im also debating whether to let go of my last BV hobo for the same. But, it doesn’t take up much room, so it stays.
Hi @880 thanks for the shout out on the Massai Cut - mine is a 40 in Etain Evergrain. I bought it from a consignment store in 2019. It has both short strap and long strap, however, I only wear it on the short strap. I occasionally consider letting it go because the Massai Cut 40 is large on me and I am more a fan of structured bags. I think it would be harder to let go if it was a Massai Cut pm size.

I really have to pass on any cute small bags that cannot fit my phone or can’t be worn crossbody as I will never wear them. I found out over many bags, I don’t wear bags that are only worn on he shoulder or in my hand. It has to have another option to wear it. I don’t like the strap falling off my shoulder nor holding/gripping my bag as I have joint pain since my 20s.

I have my eye on a couple white leather bags, which is typically something I’d avoid because I worry that they’d show wear more easily. I don’t overly baby my bags because I firmly believe that they’re meant to be used, but I know I’d be worried about marks much more than I do with my other bags. I also don’t really get seasonal colors because our summers are short and fall and spring tend to be a toss up, so I know that I wouldn’t carry a white bag much at all compared to my other bags. But the heart wants what it wants…

Same to all of this! I think especially as a toddler mom, being able to go hands free is so important, and I usually cross a bag off my list if there isn’t a slip pocket on the back for my phone. If it can’t fit my phone at all then there’s no way that would work! Lately I’m drawn to bags with both top handles and crossbody straps.

I don’t like hobo bags, but I saw a pretty brown Coach one at a secondhand shop. I wore it a couple of times and loved the way it looked. However, carrying it made me realize why I don’t like hobo bags. Everything settles to the bottom like a trash bag. i like softly structured handbags (Coach Cassidy, Balenciaga City, PS1 Tiny).

I don’t get the allure of Hermes bags. However, I can imagine myself carrying a Birkin 25 in Rose Sakura. I also don’t like hand carry handbags. Go figure.

Crossbody bags!!
I like the looks of them, but they do not actually work for me. Maybe because of my built, lol.. they don't look good on me when looking in the mirror.

Celine Box Bag, Celine Triomphe Bag, YSL LouLou, now Celine Romy?? I think I have to come to terms with the fact that I was attracted because of the brand and because it looks good on other people. That doesn't have anything to do with me or how the bag will work with my life.
So this is me putting on the whole clown outfit now, because I ended up buying vintage box bags and the box bag and triomphe bag.

Oh my gosh finally a thread that gives words to precisely what I am feeling. I love smaller bags - clutches, pochettes, etc. - they look so elegant held in the hand, but the real me simply carries too much stuff to fit bags that are that small, and badly needs the convenience of a shoulder-carry bag. I own several small bags - the cloud bag from cambridge satchel, loewe flamenco clutch, to name two - and am always trying to find opportunities to carry them, they always make me feel so nice, but over the course of the years I've had to sell away quite a few bags (Moynat Rejane - so beautiful but so impractical) because there simply aren't enough chances I'd get to carry all of them out often enough to make me feel it's worth keeping them around. Recently I've been back to the small bag game again. I got a savette symmetry from net-a-porter with a singles day discount code, still in two minds about whether to keep it...

Three words: Dior Book Tote. I hate hand-carry-only bags and would obsess about the fabric getting dirty. I avoid fabric bags for this reason alone. But man, they are gorgeous and some of them are so tempting.
I feel exactly the same! Some are STUNNING, but I have the same qualms you do.

Another bag I keep drooling over is the new sequined mini baguette, esp the pink one that looks rose gold-ish. I would want the matching shoes too. But I have zero occasion in my real life to wear a sequined mini bag and heels, not to mention I would worry about sequins coming off accidentally due to use.

Furla Opportunity tote might be your answer. Some sizes have a shoulder strap and they come in several prints. The prices are so reasonable (1/10 of Dior Book tote's prices) that a little dirt isn't enough to cause a constant panic. From what I've heard from the SAs at the Furla boutique, the fabric is also easy to clean.
