Maybe it's because they don't really understand how much it would mean to us. Most people would rather give something that is less expensive and not so tiny. Before I got the Pandora flue my SIL got a Pandora bracelet and she had a small Pandora book with pictures and prices and I suppose that she had hoped to receive some charms someday too, but I remember thinking that there would be no way that I would spend that much money on something so small. LOL, I guess I was wrong... :p

That book is dangerous! I've seen so many lovely things in there! ;-) I agree, they do seem expensive, but I did hope my DH might take the proverbial hint, although I wouldn't expect anyone else to spend that much on a charm for me ... This year, I marched the entire family info our fairly local Pandora store! :-D

That's what normally happens. I think we get too impatient to wait for them as gifts and rather bag ourselves a bargain and just buy what we want. There's nothing wrong with that. Some of my favourite charms I have bought myself.

I agree, Tabitha; the recent sales meant I could buy some gorgeous charms - although one caused me a few sleepless nights ... :-[ One of my friend's DH was thrilled when she had a Pandora for her 40th; he had birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, Valentine's etc sewn up for the foreseeable future! No such luck here ... :-D

I love gifting charms as presents. I wish all my friends have Pandora. I converted two of my friends into Pandora fans, although one isn't too bothered. There's nothing better than being handed that little Pandora bag knowing that there will be a delightful little charm inside the bag. It doesn't even matter if it's the cheapest spacer, we would still love it!

That's so true! The little bag itself is gorgeous and, I agree, the cheapest spacer would be the more special if a friend had chosen it. To be fair, it's probably easier to buy that than spend hours trawling around stores trying to choose something that a) suits b) fits or c) they haven't already got! ;-)

I would be scared to go alone too, but it seems romantic and adventurous to me. A friend of mine went for a trip to Thailand for a couple of weeks al by herself, she had a great time but she´s more fearless than I am.

In the beginning it is easier to receive charms, the changes that you do not have that charm is bigger than when you already have a lot. I started whit Pandora because my mom gave me a bracelet and three charms. After that the only gift I got was one golden spacer from my dad, wich I am still very happy with.
In the beginning all I could see is how expensive it is, I felt like it would be money wasted. Now I now better, I know when the sales are and I know I can always sell it and it stays beautifull and solid.

I bought a birthday charm this year on behalf of my mum, who is in a nursing home and can't walk. It was the silver teddy, to match my teddy Mulberry Alexa, and she was thrilled to see it on my bracelet. She had chosen it for me and it will always be special with its link to her, even if she didn't physically go out and buy it ...

I did buy one charm in the sale that was definitely out of budget but, as you say, it is an investment of sorts. ;-)

Well that's it. If I knew my friend loved her Pandora then I wouldn't think of buying anything else. I think it's really meaningful too because we would be putting time and effort into choosing the right charm. A lot of the times I see many gifts that people receive and think they have absolutely put no thought into it. I myself have been on the receiving end of some strange gifts from my best friend! These include a stationery tub filled with paper clips, drawing pins etc, to which she said I am good at admin. Yes perhaps I am but I don't really want these things when I can use them for free at work. I also got a glasses case. I mean, I have to year glasses but it doesn't mean I like wearing them! I prefer my contacts. Anything from Pandora would be more than ideal.

I've had some bizarre gifts in my time, too - sometimes costly and weird! Conversely, one of the loveliest gifts was a huge bunch of lilac, with an amazing scent, picked from a friend's garden. She didn't have much money and the thought was spot on - that I would love the huge spray of spring flowers. :-) Coincidentally, I adore the smell of hawthorn (May) blossom and managed to pick up the hawthorn charm in the recent sale! :-)

That's so sweet, sounds like my mom.

There you go, this shows that it's not about the money that you spend. You have a creative and optimistic friend, sounds like she's making the best of it.

This thread feels quiet lately. Hoping it fires up again when the fall charms release. Bought a safety chain yesterday.
