Oops sorry for copying wrong info above here is my question below. I see simple green and fray stuff works good above I want to try it! Where do you buy here products.

Creative minds wanted!! I'm new and looking to repair or take off Louis Vuitton bucket bag sticky "come off" lining myself to get down to the soft lining material. There is a few YouTube videos on this but it just tries to sell you some homemade solution for 50 bucks + ship :smileand they don't explain their "secret potion" of coarse! I've heard nail polish remover and goo gone but that freaks me out. Plsss help! Any suggestions tricks & techniques that can save my bag are so so welcomed!

Removing the vuittonite was much easier than I thought it would be. The hardest part was finding Simple Green in a store near me! I went to just about every grocery store and big box store without success then found Simple Green Concentrated at Ace Hardware. After searching so much I figured it would have to do.

On the bottle it gives formulas to dilute it and I did a 1 to 1 dilution on my cosmetic pouch. I think this was the right mix. Later that day I did not dilute the simple green when I cleaned the black gunk lining from my vintage LV Voyage briefcase and it is still stinks like chemicals. I need to air it out this weekend!

Additional tips: condition any vachetta on your bag before you begin. Put down an OLD towel /rag you don't mind throwing away after. Use a spoon to scrape large chunks off. Have a few old tooth brushes on hand. Wear gloves. If you get "sticky" on your hands spray them with simple green. Watch a good movie as you do it and it will go by quickly. You'll be so glad you did it!

I've been looking for a bucket gm and find that they are difficult to find in decent shape. I'm considering buying one that's in pretty good condition and if need be id fix it up. Most of them have lining issues so seeing this thread is great in case I have any questions down the road. Keep me posted on your outcome of the goo gone and nail polish remover ;)

I will be joining this club very soon. I got a bargain (I think so at least) on this Cabas alto tote I plan to use as a diaper/travel bag. I didn't mind the vachetta issue since you can't really see it and the rest of the bag is in perfect condition! I do plan to try and clean up the bottom a little. Any suggestions to lighten the staining? If not I will still happily enjoy the bag!

this is such a cute club! i have a French Co. Speedy that is desperately in need of some new handles; however, it doesn't have the vachetta...do you think it's a lost cause? :crybaby:
I know this is a response to a 9 year old post, but was wondering if you were able to get those handles replaced and if so how? I have French Co Speedy and the zipper pull broke off the tucky lock. I called LV yesterday and they basically said, "Oh, we probably can't help because it's so old and we don't have replacement parts." I'm wondering if I can go to a leather shop and have them replace my zipper and reattach the Talon zipper pull that I managed to salvage. I bet that would take away some of the value of the bag because it will have replacement parts that are not LV. Oh well...

My Speedy rescue saga... :speedy:

I purchased a vintage Speedy 25 in excellent condition for it's age. (Born in 1997) Of course the vachetta was nice and dark as expected, but canvas all good, and inside spotlessly clean. It just needed a new zip pull...

So I took it to LV, and they put the new zip pull on... BUT!!! After repairing it, they folded it flat!! into a nice new dust cover. When I went to collect it, I found the leather tab at one end (the one with the hole in it for padlock) had been bent right over and when I touched it just fell off in my hand!!! I was soooo upset :crybaby:

They were really sorry and said they would replace it for free, but needed to send it to Paris, so would take several weeks. Ok, so I might let them do that, but the older leather on the bag is sooooo dark, it would take ages for the new bit to catch up. And I want to use the bag for a while, so decided to do a temporary repair myself. This is what I did... And maybe other vintage Speedy owners will find this helpful if it happens to them.

Using a white glue (the safe school type) I carefully glued along the broken edges then attached it back on. For added strength, I then cut a piece of cotton fabric to fit the exact shape of the tab, more or less. Put glue over the fabric, then sliding it carefully under the leather tab stuck it to the underside. It doesn't show at all unless the bag is upside down! I just need to trim a bit more in the hole area. In hindsight I should have used a darker fabric.

It looks good! Sorry to hear what happened.

Not sure how secure white glue is.. but you can purchase fabric/leather glue which will bond better.

I have leather glue from a dollar store (Daiso) and it works great with leather and fabric.

Thank you, yes I dont think the school glue will last well, but was being impatient so kind of experimented with a quick fix! I'm going to feed the leather a bit more first, then see how it goes. And yes leather/fabric glue would be best.

I'm in the process of rescuing several LV Vintage bags. So far I have aquired 4. I have a question regarding the 5th bag (Epi Jacques). One of the handles is tearing and the bottom corner has a large tear. I'm wondering if it is gonna be too difficult to repair. Thoughts???

So I still haven't messed with my petit now with the super musty smell. I bought a replacement strap (despite moisturizing like crazy, it still cracked) and the bag is clean so I desperately want to use it.
I got an idea. Cedar blocks remove musty odors. I have an old vintage cedar chest that smells amazing and is sitting empty (we put our TV on it for a long time). Im going to put the bag in there and forget about it for a week or two. I have never seen cedar mentioned for musty smell removal on these boards so it's worth a shot! Do you guys think it'll work??

Have you tried Ozium?

The can will say not to spray on fabric BUT at this point in your bag rehab it may be worth a gamble.

I would bring her in and warm up to room temp, sit her in a plastic storage tote, give a mist of Ozium and close up the tote. Smell test the next day.

I'm just saw this (because I totally gave up on this bag).
I didn't try the Ozium. I saw some posts about those odor neutralizes that are like gel beads? I heard they work.
For the time being, I'm going to put it in my cedar chest.
The only thing that smells on this bag is the bottom vachetta piece.

You can send it to a boutique, and I'd you're in the US, they will likely send it to San Dimas for strap replacement. I did that with a 20 year old epi Lussac that had the same problem as your bag with the straps. The only downside is that it cost $475.
