I think that Alma would clean up nicely!

Ok, update on my smelly petit noe.

I *think* I got the smell out. I put the bag in a garbage bag with a sock filled with baking soda that had drops of frankinsense oil and lavender oil. After 24 hours I took the bag out and just let it hang on my back porch (it's cold back there) to let it kind of air out. The musty smell is mostly gone. I mean it's gone enough to where I think I can comfortably carry the bag and it won't bother me.

The vachetta darkened a bit..but I honestly forget from what. I tried so many things to get the smell out. I think it was the leather CPR. I conditioned this bag to the max while I was trying to get the smell out. Pretty much every time I got it damp, when it dried, I would condition it. After leaving it in the garbage bag, I went to town on it with a magic eraser. The vachetta on the side was so filthy, I couldn't get the towel/magic sponge to come out clean. Like I don't know WTF was on there....I guess it was just dirt build up since the bag is almost 30 years old. It cracked in a few spots on the side where there was a wrinkle in the bag. I conditioned it again with some blackrock and I filled it with my stuff just to bulk it up so it wouldn't wrinkle anymore.

I think it'll be okay and honestly I don't want to mess with it anymore. I need to buy some brasso but in the meantime, I did polish up the brass with a mixture of baking soda and vinegar. It worked really well but was really messy and I didn't want to get it on the vachetta trim.

The drawstring is pretty dry but I think with a little more conditioning, I might be able to salvage it. If not, then oh well. I might just pick up some leather from the hobby store.

Here is my rescue and I could use some advice on what to clean the fabric off white canvas trim. There aren't actual stains, just overall dingyness from dirt.View attachment 3247436View attachment 3247437

Super cute!

On my rescues I have cleaned the fabric around the zippers with a few drops of dawn dish detergent diluted in a small amount of warm water. I dip a nail brush into the diluted detergent and gently scrub the fabric. If the scrubbing causes the soap to become sudsy on the fabric just wipe with a damp cloth. I always hold the item with a dry cloth while I clean. I try to be careful about any drips on the vachetta. HTH good luck.

Here's my story: After searching for a Graffiti Speedy for two years, I was unable to find one in my price range in the condition I desired. So I looked into vachetta replacement and decided that was the way to revitalize a well loved bag. After finding him on eBay, I dropped him off at my boutique. Three weeks later, he was back and stunning. Here are the before and after pics.

Hopefully this Graffiti Speedy's story can inspire others to breath some life back into a forgotten LV.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you end up for all the work and replacement? I can not get over how beautiful your bag is now. I have always dreamt about owning one of these but I too find them a little too out of my range...

So lovely! [emoji173]️[emoji16][emoji162][emoji16][emoji173]️

Despite compulsively conditioning, my strap is cracking right where it goes through the loop. I don't know if I can fix this.
I think I'm going to buy a leather strap that uses clasps instead of one that feeds through the loop then buckles. I just want to carry this bag already!!

I'm afraid the weight of my crap in the bag will make it snap out of nowhere. I don't plan on selling this bag any time soon, if ever but just in case I would want an intact strap to go along with it.

This bag is my baby now. I just want to be able to carry it.

Do you guys think just a basic leather strap with clips would look okay?

Thanks! I did a bit of looking on eBay and some Japanese sellers have sold some for $130 so I'm debating on which route to go. I'm not sure about the duties from Japan.
You should check that out to be sure. I live in Europe and when I ship to the US I declare the full price but I write USED BAG and GIFT so my buyers never had to pay Custom Duties. I know this is very hard. If I buy from the US though even as Gift I have to pay huge duties so I could not buy from the US. But I once bought an item from Japan and the seller declared a very low value of about $20 and I didn't pay anything on duties.

I think the consensus is 2/3 of the current retail is what the whole replacement costs.
