Hi Everyone, just wanted to share my success with cleaning hardware on Louis Vuitton. I used Brasso on my three year old key pouch zipper teeth and pull, applied with a soft cloth and a q tip - came out looking -almost- brand new. I also used a really nourishing leather conditioner on the canvas as it was looking tired. I have seen a few people on here trying to moisturise and nourish their vachetta with leather cleaner, which will dry out the leather and have the adverse affect to what was desired. The cream's texture is rich and oily and it took a few hours to soak in so it has certainly made a difference. the pouch looks very good not and not all showing it's age. :)View attachment 4382526View attachment 4382527View attachment 4382528View attachment 4382529

Good morning!! It's been a while since I've posted but wanted to share some recent undertakings and an update to the Alma I rescued back in January 2016. https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/the-lv-rescue-club.195246/page-63#post-29745045

The Alma has become my favorite daily bag. I carry her everywhere! I covered the handles with twillies and cleaned the vachetta trim twice a month. She was still looking pretty good after 2 years of daily use, however I felt like I needed a change.

I decided to paint the vachetta trim black. i used Angelus leather paint as I have used it on other projects and had a bottle on hand. First I cleaned and polished all the hardware. Then taped off the vachetta trim. Next I prepped the vachetta with a thorough wipe of acetone. The paint applies evenly and smooth, a little goes a long way. I started with the chaps, then handles, then bottom band and finally the base. Here is a shot mid way through the bottom band.

i used 2 coats and allowed 30 minutes of dry time between each. I placed the bag "bottoms up" over a vase and allowed to dry overnight. In the AM I sealed the leather with Angelus 600 sealer, which gives a nice sheen without too much gloss. Here is the end result:smile:

Hi all
Just to share - Not a rescue but a prevention.... [emoji51].

I recently purchased the new LV Giant Kirigami set and love it ... however the light coloured interior made me hesitate to use it... Since I didn’t want to pay a lot of money for bag inserts or organizers, I bought some felt cloth and made my own “inserts” by folding it into half and machine sewing both sides. Really simple. It’s thin and doesn’t take up space but thick enough to prevent accidental stains from coins and makeup.

Hope this helps someone who is thinking of DIY their own bag / pouch insert.

Hi there, I’m new to this forum but I wanted to ask a question regarding the drawstring for a LV Backpack I just purchased. I am wondering if it’s salvageable and if so what’s the best way to clean it or if I should replace the string? Hope you all can see the strings well in that picture.

I also purchased a Speedy 30 from 1992 and I was pretty happy with how she turned out after a little TLC but I am by no means an expert.

Your Speedy looks great, it's amazing what a little conditioning can do. I purchased a drawstring for my Noe at the LV boutique an it was $65. I found this out much later, you can buy the string used to restring a catcher's mitt and it works great or you can contact a guy on Etsy called Leatherprince and he is wonderful. His string has the edging just like the LV for half the price, about $30. But it is new vachetta, so you have to wait for the patina to form. The leather used to string a catcher's mitt is already the same as a patina'ed LV bag, so the choice is up to you!

Thank you so much for your quick reply. I will have to look into both those options to see which one I like best. To be honest I was already leaning towards replacing the string just because I don’t think cleaning it would help it much.

As far as my Speedy ViVi (yes I named her) lol thanks! She was definitely a little thirsty and in desperate need of some conditioner. =)

What I found with the string is that it will snap , so just easier to replace.

Does anyone have any experience in DIY dyeing a white vernis to a slightly darker shade? I'd like to dye mine a rose-nude shade, like Rose Velours. The professional services only offer black, dark burgundy or midnight blue, and all the other DIY projects I've seen out there are super dark tones as well, like pseudo-Amarante. The only non-dark shade I've seen is the youtube video by Little Mamas House, where she dyed her vernis wallet orange.

Here's a pic of what my bag looks like:

Is it possible?

Is it possible?

Yes I have dyed a verni key holder form LV and a verni card holder from Dior from a light colour to a darker colour.
I watched the video by Little Mamas House too. It was really easy.I used the Fieblings leather dye too.
I think as long as the new colour is slightly darker than the original it will work.
And if the colour does not turn out the way you want, you can always dye it again with a darker colour.

Thanks! I'm a little scared to do it myself. I might get a beat-up old vernis SLG to experiment on first!

It’s definitely possible, for all the items that you’ve seen dyed darker - it’s several layers of dye to get it to the darker shade. I’ve dyed a white item navy, the first couple of layers of dye the blue was much lighter. I’ve dyed a light pink item red and again, it took quite a few layers to get it to the red shade I wanted. In fact, to get the blue item Navy, I actually had to do a few layers of black dye.
It’s a really good idea to practise on an Slg, it’s quite a nervy process to begin with. I’m working up the courage to dye a bag at some point, I’ve dyed 4 slg’s. Please post before and after pics, I’d love to see how you get on.
