I just picked up this almost-20-year-old (November 1999) Danube PM from a Japanese seller. I got it for a steal, and it came in much better shape than I had anticipated. The outside pocket was flaking horribly however, but all it took was scrubbing with some dry paper towels, and the flakes came right out - much easier than I thought it would be. Now it is a smooth black canvas with zero flaking! The canvas was quite stiff, so I massaged it with some saddle soap to clean and condition. I polished the hardware with Brasso, and took some water and Oxyclean to the stitching that holds the chaps on the side as the rust from the rivets had turned them green. The inside was in perfect condition, so there was nothing to do there. It is now resting with some Bounce sheets inside as it had a slight perfume smell. Now the bag is soft, pliable, has a nice, even patina, and shiny hardware. The first photo is the before (I didn’t get detail shots because I was excited to get to work in it), and the last photo is the towel I used to clean the canvas, leather, and hardware. It’s crazy how much dirt is on seemingly clean canvas!
Thanks for letting me share!

Hi there! Does anyone know where I can purchase screwback d rings? I’m planning on converting a mini looping bag into a crossbody. All my options for the screwback are from overseas and shipping will take a while. Any ideas? Also I hear a lot about k-craft for leather straps. I tried looking on eBay but came up empty. Anyone have an alternative for leather straps that they like using? Thanks for your help!

I hope I’m thinking of the same thing, but look for “CraftMeMore” on Amazon. I’m not home right now, but when I get there, I’ll take a picture. I use them on NF handles to hang a bag charm from.

Hi Everyone, just wanted to share my success with cleaning hardware on Louis Vuitton. I used Brasso on my three year old key pouch zipper teeth and pull, applied with a soft cloth and a q tip - came out looking -almost- brand new. I also used a really nourishing leather conditioner on the canvas as it was looking tired. I have seen a few people on here trying to moisturise and nourish their vachetta with leather cleaner, which will dry out the leather and have the adverse affect to what was desired. The cream's texture is rich and oily and it took a few hours to soak in so it has certainly made a difference. the pouch looks very good not and not all showing it's age. :)Screenshot 2019-03-24 at 23.03.00.pngScreenshot 2019-03-24 at 23.03.08.pngScreenshot 2019-03-24 at 23.03.28.pngScreenshot 2019-03-24 at 23.03.18.png

It looks great! I came to this thread looking for advice on how to restore my same pouch which looks similar to your ‘before’ photo - I will be trying out the brasso. Thank you for sharing!

hi everyone, I have a quick cleaning question. Does anyone have any good tips for how to get annoying white marks off LV canvas (keep all in particular). I have no idea where they came from but imagine they will be tough to take off. Thanks!
