Okay, that helps. So the French is "vachette," which is pronounced "va-shett," which is what the SA said to say, and probably that would be the most correct.
But if "vachetta" is the English translation, pronounced "va-shetta-ah," which is what I was saying, then that's probably correct also, right?
But in Italian you would pronounce that word "va-khet-ah," so I guess that's a possibility too. Although I don't know if that's a real word in Italian or not. Vaca means cow, so the root is the same. Come to think of it, is "vachetta" really an English word? I don't see it in Dictionary.com or Merriam-Webster Online, for what that's worth.
I like words and languages, too, ceriseslover, which I think is what got me thinking about this whole thing!
I guess I will just go with "va-shett," since it seems like that at least is correct for the French word vachette.
I don't know how much validity this will have to some people but recently D&B did a show on QVC and the representative pronounced it va-KET-a.
You are right, vachetta is an italian word: So it is pronounced va-kEt-a.
Vachette is a french word pronouced va-shEtt.
However, in LV in France the SA would pronounce it vash-tA because they are French and sounds close to the french equivalent.
OMG i'm so confused now! ...well not really cause i trust you guys more than the SAs for some reason, but when i went to go do some recon for the items i've been looking for and asked my VERY FIRST SA about the "va-chett-ah" she asked me "oh you mean the "vAR-che"?!?!?! 
i was all thinking to myself "oh...ok...i dunno where the R sound would come from, but i've never had any french influences/encounters before tPF, so o...kay...vAR-che it is (at least for that visit lol)." oddly enough she no longer works there, so i'm in need of a new SA =\. any of you have any recommendations for the Century City Store out here in LA?

SA are not infallible. And one can sound pretentious when pronouncing something right, so ... let it be. It is all about the BAG! isn't it?

YUP! vachette is the French word, and I don't know how people turned it into vachetta (which is not even an English word last time I checked)
Fair enough - but has anyone actually seen the word "vachetta" written anywhere except here? If it's written like that, I agree about that pronunciation, but I'm thinking my SA was right about vachette!
I just tried looking on the LV website in different languages. I can't find vachette or vachetta on the French site! They use the phrase "vache vegetal natural" in one place, which I presume means natural cowhide. Maybe I will just say that!

i'm gonna assume it's the french pronounciation and i know i have heard of this term (re: LV) before, it's not just a tpf thing
