For what it's worth, I've always heard my SA (of which I'm on my second) say "vah-kett-ah" in the Scottsdale store

Fair enough - but has anyone actually seen the word "vachetta" written anywhere except here? If it's written like that, I agree about that pronunciation, but I'm thinking my SA was right about vachette!

I just tried looking on the LV website in different languages. I can't find vachette or vachetta on the French site! They use the phrase "vache vegetal natural" in one place, which I presume means natural cowhide. Maybe I will just say that!

well that's the thing, I think the word "vachetta" is actually something made up on tPF, it is NOT found in English, French, and Italian, and is more of a French and Italian combo.

I'm French too (in way...) so, for sure the French word is VACHETTE which is pronounced as 'vah-shet', with its origin from VACHE = cow in English.
And you're right about the vache vegetal naturel, except that vegetal here *I think* refers to a specific way of tanning leather I read somewhere...

Yes, that's right, it refers to the tanning process, only involving natural vegatable ingredients, no man made chemicals or minerals.

it should be [cuir (de)] vache vegetal naturel as it's masculin IMO. A vegetable natural cow would make no sense anyhow.

LOL, I think you're right. Since it's a TPF word, I guess we can all pronounce it however we like! It probably all started with some SA somewhere, who may or may not have known what they were talking about, and thus the word was born.

Is there anything specific you want to know? I'd like to think I'm pretty decent

Find someone who speaks fluent french, if you really want to be 100% sure.
And BTW, the SAs don't pronounce them all correctly, lol (so my DFH tells me !!)

Not all are suposed to be pronouced in french, like the ones with english names. And some are better translated. Like "vernis" simply means varnished or patent (leather) in french.
