I second that. Thanks for the great links, Uli! I enjoyed them thoroughly, as well.
I even spotted something to ask DH for birthday. I love the Big Sur Jade pendants! I imagine you can almost feel the Great Pacific in those pieces!

They are wonderful! Can you really see the cracks if you are not up right close? I've eyed their 'with crack' pieces and don't have dangling jade earrings. This seems like a good way to try a pair! ;-) With earrings you don't have to worry about banging them around when wearing them and making any cracks worse.

From a normal viewing distance, they look fine to me. Big grains, but decent translucency and a very neutral color. I like them. I got a 2nd pair that one of the beads look chipped, but again... no one is going to be staring at my earrings looking for flaws!

Like you mentioned, there is less worry about damaging earrings as long as when they are put away they aren't mixed in and banging about in a box where other things could hit it.

They really look smashing!

Hello purseblog community, I am a conflicted male, 19. I'm currently studying abroad in Taiwan, and I've always had a passion for Jade bracelets.

I've read a single place online that says they are okay for males to wear but I suppose what do you think. Do you or would you find it weird to see a guy wearing a jade bracelet? Like I said I am very conflicted internally about it, I suppose. Thanks for any confidence or comments thank you!

Hi James and welcome!
Personally, I think men look great in jade! My husband wears a huge black jade bangle and loves it. It looks very sumptuous and masculine. I see lots of people admiring it and he gets plenty of compliments because it is truly unique and fitting. I think with something like a bangle, which has an eternally classical shape without extra adornment, you cannot go wrong. Nothing about that shape makes it more feminine rather then masculine.

With bangles, there are slight differences in cut which make some more masculine looking then others. For example, some with more defined angles, such as flat bangles are particularly masculine IMO.

I say since you love jade, just wear what you love. I know of other men who wear lots of jewelry because they love it. They get nothing but compliments from others. It's always attractive to show confidence by wearing what you love! Good luck and please let us know if you end up buying something!

James, Yay, I am glad you are going to follow your love of jade. it really is a "living stone" and I am sure your appreciation will grow even more once you start wearing it!

Regarding where to buy it, I don't know of any places in Taiwan, but do know of places on line. Perhaps some of the other ladies have some suggestions?

First thing you need to do if you are looking for a bangle is to figure out your size. There are different ways of doing this, but best is to try some on. You will probably need a larger size, like above 65mm.

Then if you decide to buy it there, make sure you are buying an untreated bangle with a test certificate. The certificate should have the letter A on there, for A grade (untreated). Also, with many labs like CMA and others, you can enter the id number on their website and your bangle should come up. Perhaps you can have them write on the receipt that you will receive a full refund if not found to be grade A, (especially if your spending a lot.)

We are here for any questions you may have!

I had to use my iphone as my ruler and my canon 40d, with a fisheye lens. I can say if you can't tell by the picture I'm like 61 - 65mm according to: yingyujade.com/measure_bangle.htm

I also don't know where to go out and buy one, also there are a lot of shady deals so maybe I'm better off buying from say Ebay? Like this was linked much earlier in the thread: www.ebay.com.sg/sch/m.html?_odkw=ja...ksid=p2046732.m570.l1313&_nkw=bangle&_sacat=0

No yes maybe?

Hi ravagedingo! That seller looks like they have a lot of dyed jade. Dyed jade can be fun, but it is best to know beforehand and seller should be upfront. Usually treated jade is inexpensive compared to Grade A (undyed/untreated) jade. There are also some confusions about his descriptions... I saw one bangle that looked like dyed banded agate and the auction title said jade/jadeite, but the inner description mentioned nephrite! Sooooo confusing and misleading.

Yingyu has some interesting articles about jade, but is a dishonest seller and very hard to work with if you need a refund/return.

So far on the jade thread posters have experienced good transactions with ultimate jadeite, suzanne_corner, luckyminerals, enijew, jade-los-angles, jadedivers, gojade, piccolinagems, desiretreasures, jade peony, aloha memorabilia, little jade sanctuary, GegeDesigns, and JOJO jade/jadefinejewelry. I'm probably missing a few.

Don't rush the purchase. I would say take some time looking through the reference threads Jade: Stone of Heaven and Jade & Jadeite. . The stone of heaven reference thread has modeling shots of bangles & pendants being worn and the jade/jadeite reference thread has pictures and information of Grade A through C jade and different treatments.

I rely on online stores because there is no local jade market where I live.

I`d say no to this seller as most his bangles look like color treated or afghanistan jade. I didn`t go through all of them, but the first two pages I couldn't see any grade A.

No yes maybe?

Also question... what colors are your preference? We can help you look! :graucho: Do you think you want traditional round, or a flat-inner low dome style? I think clairejune's Edward Black nephrite bangles are a great example of this.

Clairejune, can you repost pics of your DH's bangle? Maybe drop them into the reference threads, too?

Or perhaps more square or rectangle angles?

Welcome James! There were recent posts on our thread by a guy who just bought his 2nd bangle. His 1st one had broke, but don't think he knew if it was treated jade or not. Treated jade is less durable, particularly B grade jade since it's treated with acid before being soaked with polymers. I agree with the other jade sisters about getting an A grade bangle for durability and to avoid chemicals on your skin if you plan to wear it all/most of the time.

Oh hi all, thanks for the support ^_^. I will take your recommendation and take the process slowly of buying it. There seems to be more to this than I originally thought.

Uhm, I'm still a baby (like bao-yu, I wonder if any of you catch the reference) in terms of jade. I like green, red and black in that order. Though I feel as red and green are considered to be far more feminan.

I've been reading this entire thread posting in my spare time. I've gotten to page 56 or so, I still have a bit of reading tonight to get up to date

haha! we're on thread #3 and likely this one will be archived soon and Swanky will start us a new one.

The great thing about jade is that there are so many different options, pattern, and colorings. Do you have a price range? Ultimate Jadeite has some larger black jadeite bangles at the moment, but on the expensive side. Red tends to be more brownish-red unless it is very expensive or heat-treated. Heat-treated reds are still considered Grade A because there is no dye or polymer or bleaching, but it can be dry & more brittle.

And there are so many hues of green!
