Scarves ........ The Hermès Spring/Summer 2020 Scarves..........

Just catching up on this thread. Super excited for the new season -- was going through the thread and literally messaging my SA with all the OMGs. I like unusual formats, so will be looking to get a round scarf and a 20cm one for sure (the latter one for my cat :) ). Since the round one is 140cm, that's a ton of fabric to work with, so I can definitely see some creative ways to drape and tie it. It looks like there is a heart-shaped one as well? Would make for a cool art piece on the wall I think...

The double-sided scarves are certainly super cool. Curious about the price point though! The 90s are already so expensive as is...

I have to say I am impressed with Hermes' insistence on remaking new variation of BdG -- never been interested in that design myself, but it is a cool way to connect to the brand's heritage, and people do buy them.

At the earliest, mid-December but usually not till January in Europe. Also, don't hold your breath on all designs being released at the same time. H has now resorted to a new strategy of trickling in new silks in batches of designs, which in the usual H mystique, no one knows why. One could be waiting till May for a Spring/Summer silk to show up. (I speak from experience. :blah:)

I was told mid-November for my U.S. boutique, but who knows. I will say the trickling in thing makes me spend more money as I keep going to the boutique...

Thanks for the heads up :P
Just the fact that I can finally rest my longest H search makes me happy, I will be patient.

I remember my very first H experience, I had done my research and this was the scarf I wanted. It was July 2009, and I was travelling to Greece with my mom and first daughter. I went into every boutique including the airports asking for it, but it was sold out, and as an H newbie at the time, I had no idea how to find one other than just walking into boutiques. My father was travelling after we returned, and he looked for one too, but it just never happened.
Pure nostalgia this will be!
.... I’ll stop rambling now ...

That's a fun story! Hope you can get it very soon.

My cat has his eye on the red.

Yep, I think my orange cat needs a red one too!

The round scarf could be worn like this. :P

OMG. I can totally see it...

Thank you for starting this thread, @Angelian This post may be redundant as most of these scarves have been shared, but these pics were taken by my friend who attended the Hermès press day event and messaged them to me:

Never too many photos, Thankyou so much, it’s the best way to see what’s on offer, and see it accurately!!!!Yesterday, I had to educate yet another SA at the Hermes boutique in Vancouver. They don’t know the names , the histories, the artists, and even more distressing, they keep large numbers of scarf designs and colorways in “ the back” so a less knowledgeable customer can’t buy what might simply catch their eye...it’s very frustrating when one has to come in and deal with an ignorance that is presented as exclusivity...unless you know the serial number, they can’t help you, but it’s treated like that is strategy and not simply poor merchandising. I know other prestige companies have people who’s entire job biannually personally come out and update and train their staff on the upcoming season, it’s focus and the specific models and developments. I feel like contacting the manager and offering a workshop
... (Wow, I seem to be doing a lot of complaining on this thread...sorry .)

Gosh I love that Claire de Lune, though...

I definitely agree with your frustration. I too have met many SAs worldwide who are not too knowledgeable about silks. But to be honest, for most of us here, this is a hobby, but for them, it's a job, so it's hard to maintain the same level of passion. In addition, Hermes has been growing so much, and so many new SAs have been coming in, that it is normal many of us collectors feel we know so much more compared to them.

My SA is in a newer boutique that is just over a year old. She came from a different luxury brand and she seems to always had been interested in Hermes leather, but not so much in scarves. I know she is VERY knowledgeable and I assume she been putting in a lot of effort to learn, but it's not the same as someone who has been collecting for over a decade (yours truly); and there are many people who have been collecting for several decades, and that's totally fine. I am also wondering how many newer (and even existing) SAs can truly afford to shop Hermes, both new and vintage -- I know they get gratis and there are staff sales and discounts, but it is not the same as many members here who have very generous disposable incomes. I know I learned a ton about the brand from just scouring eBay and resellers myself, but it may not be an option for everyone.

I don't know if my store keeps much in the back -- can't really comment here. Is that because they have limited space for scarves and don't want to visually overcrowd the displays?

Great post. You are always so thoughtful.
For some people, though, the trickling in is a real turn-off and makes them spend less. Personally I find the secrecy and games annoying, but the refusal to make known all the colorways of a scarf design is just perverse.

Do you suppose maybe H doesn’t know initially? I wonder if they plan x number of CWs but wait to see how sales of a design will be before they release them? Some CWs may never make it to production if the initial release doesn’t sell. Just a guess. :thinkin:

Hm. No idea. Supposedly there are CWs for certain markets, but not everyone.

You are a very kind person, and I sound like a bit of a cranky pants, but truly I don’t give these SA’s a hard time, nor do I expect them to have any esoteric knowledge about the brand. Simply that they know the basic terminology like CSGM, or silk twill, or the names of the scarves in the current and previous season,( not even the upcoming season!) That is about how familiar you expect a waitress in a cafe to be with their product. To me the pleasure of shopping in a store as venerable as Hermes is both their creative history, but their pride of proprietorship and of good and knowledgeable customer service. It may simply be my particular boutique however, as I’ve never have never encountered it anywhere else.

Oh! Ok, I do expect sales people do know what a CSGM is. I wonder what boutique this was, if you don’t mind sharing.

Head of Scarves buys for the store ahead of the season so they know what's comming but they don't know when.

Whist very interesting, don't forget we have a thread devoted to the H experience in the shopping suvforum.

People often call the same things differently sometimes. I've often referred to CSGMs as Cashmere 140s or giant cashmeres.
