I'm hearing that a lot of stores won't do hot stamp on an item you already own - they now are only doing them with a purchase. Not necessarily an item that can be hot stamped, but rather if you bring in the item they want you to buy something before the do the stamp. Has any one experienced this? Or, have you brought in a luggage stamp just to be the stamped and they did it without a purchase? Curious what to expect when I travel this weekend.

I had something hot stamped that I bought with me and that was fine I also wanted to buy a passport cover in LA but they were sold out so bought a new luggage tag and had that hot stamped.
I definitely think that in America they have different rules to follow. I’m from the UK and was advised they are allowed to do upto three stamps which includes initials.

Edited to add that in the States they won’t stamp anything that already has a stamp.

I have never had any problems getting my already purchased items stamped. It's not like they are from other brands, so I would find it pretty cheeky to turn them down. Then I could never buy anything online for which I wanted hot stamping other than initials. Buying luggage tags is such a drama that I have lost the joy of hot stamping and only got back into it because I bought bags with luggage tags. In April I had 4 hot stampings done in different stores in New York on things I brought with me, and there were no problems. My impression is that it depends on the individual employees. I am very excited to see if I can find the bear in Berlin and then get it stamped on the luggage tag I brought with me.

Ok thank you, this is positive. On the LV reddit they are very doom and gloom about hot stamps lol. I feel better going in to ask this weekend.
