The ❤Gabrielle❤ Bag: It's a HIT!!

Hi guys, need some advice!

I realize I'm in a Gabrielle-friendly thread here so the opinions may be biased, lol. After labouring over the past year or so (I went from initially hating the look of the Gabrielle, if I'm being totally honest, to now being rather infatuated with it - OK, it's that I love wearing it in the V formation), I'm looking to buy a pre-loved Gabby, likely in medium size. I'm looking for something that could be a daily bag and that I don't have to keep dry since I live in a rainy city. (It won't get soaked, but it'll get more than a few sprinkles, so lambskin has been ruled out.) Since pretty much all of my Chanel bags are flaps, yet totes tend to be my most reached-for daily bags, a medium tweed Gabrielle seems like it checks all the boxes.

I had really been taken by this current-season bag that I saw at the boutique last week; this was the aesthetic that totally won me over (the tweed and the hint of sequins):

I just couldn't bring myself to take the plunge at retail price (I just bought a jumbo double flap in February and a Coco Handle last month, in store and my wallet is screaming at me!).

I found this one pre-loved and am debating buying it. Do you think it "ticks all the boxes" in the same way (despite a lack of sequins, and a different color scheme), keeping in mind that it it's about US$1,000 cheaper than buying the new one in the boutique?

Are there any pros/cons to a tweed Gabrielle that I should consider as well?

TIA!

I personally don’t like color combo of the resale one. Have you considered a nylon covered tweed from last spring?

The PVC would yellow with exposure to sunlight. It also reminds me of plastic slipcovers on a sofa. A big fat NOOOO!

But how do you really feel?? I agree, I get worried about PVC, as much as I would love waterproofing.

OK so then it's between:

At a $1,000 price difference, does one sway you more than the other? (I do really love the subtle sequin accents in the bottom one.)

I much prefer the bottom bag. The tweed is lovely. You can wear it with black, blue, white, ivory, camel or tan. I think there is even some green and gold in there as well. It is the hands down winner for me. The top bag is quite limiting unless your wardrobe consists mainly of black or even white. It looks like the kind of tweed to have when you have everything else.

I understand your concerns about rain. There are good waterproofing products that can be sprayed on leather or fabric. I think that I would carry an Envirosax in either leather or tweed and pop a good bag in it worse case scenario. Envirosax are so handy and roll up very small and take up minimal room in your bag.

I realize there is a 1k difference, but the clear winner is always the one that you will wear the most and goes with the largest number of items in your wardrobe.

You're right. I'd be settling for the top one but the colors aren't my favorite, and the bottom one makes my heart sing. It's all the colors I love, and the hint of sparkle is so beautiful to me! I think that's the one I've gotta go for. I'll wear it way more often than the other one!

I know that I would:smile: Just look at what I chose and for the exact reasons I stated, i.e. more colors =more wardrobe choices.

I love the tweed one. It would match with more outfits. The top one, I don’t like the color.

hello ladies, I would need some help here. I'm looking for Gabrielle iridescent black in small size but it's sold out in Singapore and HK. Has anyone seen any in the store recently or would know where I could get them? I'm also considering medium size but i think it's slightly too big and I have a few medium to jumbo size bag.

I’ve seen in at Las Vegas boutiques.

I prefer the bottom one.

Thank you! Alas, literally the day after I got input from you guys and made my decision, I had a very dramatic near-purchase of the bag on the bottom, which - due to an SA miscommunication and another SA wanting to make the sale - meant it got bought out from under me an hour before I would have gotten to the store. And it was the last one in Canada...and not a single one available in the US. This may haunt me for years to come. :-s
