i have a question regarding the difference between congo, kenya and printed leathers. are they different or just different names for the same leather? i'm curious n not to mention a little confused.

seems like there's a difference between congo and kenya, but i don't know what it is. but congo and printed are the same just one's the old name and the other the new, because the website says printed leather is a classic. also can or should they all be treated with collinil? :confused1:

thanks for your help :smile1:

sorry for bumping an old thread, but its better then starting a new one :D
Could anyone please update this thread with the difference between Natural leather and congo, kenya and printed leathers?

Thanks :yahoo:

**bumping an old thread, looking for advice on purchasing my 1st Mulberry Bayswater in black...

Just wondering if anyone can tell me about the differences between "natural leather" and "grain leather" -- particularly in terms of stiffness, aging, scratch/rain-resistance, etc.

Any input is appreciated as I'm a first-timer here :)

Can someone give some advice on comparing the Alexa's soft buffalo oak colour and texture with something like darwin or NVT? The roxy shoulder soft spongy leather was way too shiny and the oak colour was quite different to what I was used to, and as I won't see an Alexa irl for a while, it would be great to have some advice from all you ladies who have bought one... many thanks!

i saw the alexa IRL today and was so disappointed. i saw the yellowish one in selfridges and the oak one in westfield. I've read a few comments about the leather quality and definitely agree. Alexa leather feels cheap. It's really thin and lacks a luxurious feel to it. I was in love with Alexa, but no more.

Ill have a go (Jazzy, MMad - please correct as you sit fit)

Congo - This is the original large scale printed leather that Mulberry made. It is a mock croc and has a matt shine, the print is quite raised almost puffy. It is lovely - a very high quality leather.

Mississippi - a smaller scale mock croc and comes in two finishes: (1) a very dry matt and (2) a very shiny finish

Imperial/Nile/Tiber - smaller scale croc/almost large lizard print, almost patent shine

Kenya (now called printed Vegetable tanned) - a mixed sized scale mock croc/lizard print, matt shine - a very lovely leather

Reptile - this is a leather specailly created for the outlets in the UK. Sales Assts WRONGLY call this Congo - it is no where near the quality of the original Congo. It is a large scale mock croc and it has a very flat matt finish to it.

I'm very curious what the experts might know about the soft spongy leather.

Warning - Ellie is going to be brutally honest here............

SSL is basically a split leather (the hide thickness split) - basically its the equivalent of veneer rather than solid wood.

The process of tanning desiccates leather, the thinner the hide the greater the risk of drying out which invariably leads to splitting, cracking, peeling. No amount of polish/moisure from above will resolve this because it is the hide surface moving off the thinner membrane.

Im sorry to be blunt but to say I am not a fan of this leather is an understatement.
