I am also curious about the Grainy Print leather. About to purchase a Black Bayswater w/ Soft Gold fixtures for regular use (work and causal) with internal organizer insert, debating the Grainy Print or Soft Spongy option.

How durable is the Grainy Print leather, after protective leather treatment is applied? After reading Ellie's post I'm already leaning toward the Grainy
Warning - Ellie is going to be brutally honest here............

SSL is basically a split leather (the hide thickness split) - basically its the equivalent of veneer rather than solid wood.

The process of tanning desiccates leather, the thinner the hide the greater the risk of drying out which invariably leads to splitting, cracking, peeling. No amount of polish/moisure from above will resolve this because it is the hide surface moving off the thinner membrane.

Im sorry to be blunt but to say I am not a fan of this leather is an understatement.

Grainy Print (R) vs. Soft Spongy (L) both w/ shiny soft gold locks:

Which Black Bays did you go with in the end, if any? [See my post above]

Thanks Ellie! You just made my Black Bays decision a lot easier. I have been trying to decide between printed and NVT for some time, and then I spotted the soft spongy and weirdly loved it. But I was curious why it was more than NVT. I certainly don't want to pay more money for leather of lesser quality! No wonder the SA (good girl) tried to steer me away from it.

Hello - I am straying from Bal, and about to make my first Mulberry purchase, a patent Bays. Before I bite the bullet, how does patent hold up (it's purple, if that makes a difference) and do I need to treat it with anything?
Thank you!

Welcome to Mulberry!
I have a beautiful navy patent Bayswater which I haven't treated as yet although I have taken it out several times.
Mulberry recommends collonil lack polish for patent leathers

However you could probably get it cheaper off amazon.

NOTE this is different from the waterstop spray which you can use on other leathers. I have used waterstop spray on all of my other bags except the navy patent.

Thank you! I'm a bit panicky about patent peeling - but I'm used to babying my bags so hoping it won't be a problem.....

Hi Ladies

I am thinking of getting a goat Bayswater so would like to hear your views / experience of the different types, glazed, glossy, soft or any other variants. I would like to know how soft / structured they are and also how hardwearing / weather resistent.

Thank you in advance

Can you post a pic? If its the wrinkled patent there was an issue with this type of leather as it did peel...the normal patent won't peel it's virtually indestructible..a wipe and it's as,good as new...the wrinkled patent is softer like spongey and the top layer is very very thin...mulberry had a lot of returns on this purple wrinkled patent bays

Hey,i have a question about the natural leather. Is it true that the colour of black natural leather can migrate onto light coloured clothes? And is the leather so sensitive to rain and sunlight ?
What are your experiences ?

That doesn't matter,thanks anyway :hugs:

Just had a look think natural leather might just be the new name for nvt???? In which case there should be no problem......no fading fine in the rain.....just spray and then keep it nourished with cream and it would be fine......the good old normal, leathers come up as new with a rub of nourishing cream and a polish.....some of mine are over 6 years old...no scuffs no problems
