Hoping you all might be able to help!

I just received a 17A old medium red caviar by bag with brushed gold hardware. Honestly it’s a lot lighter than I had anticipated (I’m someone who actually likes the heft of my jumbo haha) and I’m a bit concerned about the hardware. Is this much wear normal for the brushed gold? I’m just on the fence about keeping it because the caviar seems a bit more delicate and I’m worried the hardware will look a mess with regular use! Would love to know what everyone thinks

Gorgeous bag! I would say that’s normal for the aged hardware. It’s supposed to look worn like that. And the benefit with this is if you get more ware on it over time, it won’t show. Shiny hardware will show all of the scratches

This is exactly what I’m looking for

Hello everyone! This is my first time posting but am hoping to get some help from the knowledgeable purseforum community
Does anyone know if this Chanel Boy (pictures of close-up attached!) is made of calfskin or lambskin? Any input on how to tell them apart is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hi everyone! Hoping to get some opinions on my 23 series medium caviar boy. The top is dented in a little bit. From the inside it feels like a bump, kinda sharp actually. Is this from normal wear? Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be stuffing it more when not in use? Thank you very much in advance!

Sorry if this has been answered. I am looking on getting a boy probably in medium. It will be my push present. Can someone tell me if the chain is heavy?

Coincidentally, my push present was a Tiffany celebration ring and a new medium Chanel Boy! (The Boy was added impulsively by my husband because my pregnancy was high-risk and unusually stressful, so he decided I deserved an extra surprise. It was totally unnecessary but I DID NOT COMPLAIN, lol). The Boy, even in the larger size that I carry, is a very light bag. It is a single flap and has a textile interior lining instead of leather. For how chunky the chain is, I find it surprisingly lightweight. It is the heaviest part of the bag but shouldn’t bother you unless you‘re sensitive about the weight of your bag (you have back or shoulder issues, for instance). Most people can wear it crossbody as well, which I think distributes the weight more comfortably (I’m 5’2” with a longer torso and can wear it crossbody without it looking weird). You can Google the weight of a Chanel Boy in the size and material of your choosing (mine is lamb), but in my unscientific opinion it is a very easy bag to carry if you’re not stuffing it with lead ingots, and the chain is substantial but not particularly heavy. Chanel hardware has some heft, but again the Boy’s chain looks heavier than it is.

It looks like wear from the weight of whatever you’re carrying and is pretty normal on Boy bags. Despite its being a very boxy bag, it’s not particularly rigid, so there’s not much support on the buttom of the bag the way there is on a classic, plus the strap attachments are on the far ends of each side of the bag, leaving the middle unsupported. Do you carry a lot? Perhaps you could lighten the load, if that’s the case? You could also try a rigid base shaper. I noticed my bag curving a little in the middle once when I passed a mirror while shopping, so I immediately acquired a base shaper and started carrying a little less in the bag, and it seems to have stopped that type of wear in its tracks.

Thank you for the advice! I actually don't carry much at all which is why I was so confused! I brought it to my local boutique and the store manager said it could be from me resting my arm on it (if I did, I definitely don't remember!) or from carrying it crossbody which is my favorite way to wear it. He stuffed it well for me with tissue paper and since then it has improved greatly so I suggest you store it that way too if you don't already. I was stuffing it when not in use but def not as well as he did.

It looks like I may have formatted my response incorrectly before, so if that's the case I'll just respond again that the chain on the Boy bag is not heavy. It's substantial, not flimsy, but it is definitely not as heavy as it looks. The Boy has a textile lining, so it's quite a light bag. I have the new medium size, which is quite large (I'm only 5'2", so had I to do it over, I would have held out for the old medium), and I find it easier to carry than my classic flaps even when it's loaded with stuff. Congratulations, btw!

Hi! This looks like lambskin. It’s a little hard to tell from your photo. Calf looks slightly more textured, almost thicker, slightly more matte in finish and lamb is shinier with a smoother texture, a little more buttery. Beautiful bag!
