I would call the London Chanel store to find out what they have in stock or the store of the city where your friend will be in the US. I think if you call again the exact day they are going to pick it up, they can hold it for you. I don't think the can hold it longer for a day.
HTH!

If your mum is travelling back from London via heathrow t3 she could make use of the VAT free shopping at the terminal store. You can call 24hrs in advance and they will hold for you. :)

Picked this baby up today and I am absolutely in love! I have had such a tough time with the leather on this bag, as for anyone who had followed my past postings, I was upset that in the last few years the smooth leather version was being made dull with no sheen and it almost looked like a soft grey instead of black.

I'm not usually a lover of grainy leather like this one, but on the Cerf I think it looks amazing! I guess this is the seasonal version? I was told the other one is no longer being made, is that really true? The price was $3200. It sorta kills me because I had wanted this bag since it was $2150 in 2007, but I guess since this leather wasn't available then, I have no cause for complaints :D

Besides the leather being different, I do notice that this bag seems to be a tiny bit bigger, which I like. The older ones sometimes looked like it should have been a bit longer in height and this one seems taller to me.

Gorgeous! Congrats.

So I put all my stuff in my new bag, which is not that much and wow, it's heavy! I don't recall the classic smoother leather version being as heavy. Does anyone here who has the seasonal leather, and mine is indeed the medium sized one not the large one, find it too heavy for everyday? I think maybe I'm just not used to it right now because I've been wearing my Balenciaga City lately, which is rather light, but I hope I won't find my new Cerf too difficult for casual usage. Thoughts?

The seasonal version is a lot heavier. I have both versions and got rid of of the seasonal version. The leather on the season version is also more prone to scratches and the leather is "thicker", too thick for me actually. The classic OOV version's leather is much more smoother and elegant looking in my opinion.

My classic version is super light (lighter than my GSTs) and I stuff it with a lot.... I travel on a plane with that bag just as an idea of how much I stuff it. No weight issues at all.

I would never buy a seasonal version again. Just my two cents.

Thanks for your input, but was yours the regular/medium size or the large one that is a bit more expensive? Also, just how easily scratchable is the grainy leather? I don't understand why it would be prone to that, as it seems rather durable when touching it :thinkin:

Hi. Mine was the regular size, not the larger one. The SA told me it was new, seasonal, thicker so it stands up more, blah blah blah so I bought into it. The seasonal leather one while thicker is not "coated" like the classic one. Hard to explain, but when you touch them side by side, the classic leather sort I slips over the hand and glides while on the seasonal leather, it doesn't have that feel and feels more like leather on a nice sofa... Still great, but not the "caviar" feel that say a GST has. If you have a GST, feel that leather. It's like that.

I should have listened to other SA who was standing around and said she preferred the classic cerf's feel and leather finish. I didn't know she meant when she said that, but now I do. The thicker also kind of ruined the look for me. It's not crisp, but rather sort of puffed up.

I do love my classic one. It's my travel workhorse. Glad I replaced it.

Maybe you can order the classic and compare side by side. The cerfs are readily available at NM or Saks. Black is always around but it's in the back as they display the seasonals as they really push those. Then you can decide which one you love more. You may love the seasonal more. Not trashing the seasonal, I just didn't love it and using it annoyed me. The classic is much better for my use, and I load it up and shove it under the airplane seat. No problems at all.

Good luck!

I do have the GST, I hate it lol, but I also have a lot of flaps so I know what you mean about the leather. Lately the classic Cerfs weren't as nice as they used to be. They looked dull and a softer black than even just from a few years ago. However, I would love to test both together and see which is heavier, but it seems the classic version is now gone  Everyone says it's been discontinued…is that maybe not true? Are there still some out there? I got my seasonal one at Saks and I know they for sure didn't have the other.

Hi! I found a pic of the seasonal and classic side by side. This is from this thread and the pair is dated aug 28, 2013. You can see the leathers are very different and there is also a post on feb 24, 2014 about the black seasonal one.

My friend just got a black with GHW one a few months ago at Saks in Miami/Dadeland mall. She said there were two to choose from but she had to ask and they got it from her in the back. Also check NM. NM has free shipping and free returns.

Since you have other caviar leathers, that's the feeling I meant... Glossy and I can run my fingernail over it and nothing happens.

Funny about you and the GST. I love that bag! That one is my favorite tote but too small and heavy (chains weigh a lot) to lug around with all my stuff on a plane. The shoulder strap on the cerf is a life saver.
