All this talk about the cerf tote I think I am going to send my red luxe bowler that I got today, back and exchange it for the cerf tote in chocolate brown!:girlsigh: What do you cerf tote fans think.

Oh my. That is a tough choice. Your red bowler is so different from the Cerf tote and they are both absolutely gorgeous bags. Two entirely different styles. If you can only have one, I really wouldn't know which to tell you to choose. I think you would have to try the Cerf and see for yourself which suits you best! Here are pics of my two large Cerf totes. :smile1:

Hey, not to throw a monkey wrench into this thread, but I was reading over at tFS that the cerf tote is not really cerf (deerskin) but calfskin embossed to look like deerskin. There's an embedded discussion about it in the "Chanel cerf tote" thread. Apparently two versions of the bag were produced, the first being deerskin and the second calfskin; the name cerf tote carried over to the second version.

If I'm going to buy a cerf tote, I'd like it to live up to its namesake!

About your decision... it would depend on your wardrobe and what you plan on using the bag for. IF I had to choose, I would chose the bowler b/c you CAN add a cerf to your collection later on, the red bowler on the other hand, that is a unique and hard to find piece!!

chanel cerf bag is absolutey beautiful and i am thinking of adding this bag to my collection yummmmmm.....i prefer black or beige. white is nice too but too hard to maintain.

Goldensx - i love ur cerfs, the black is so cool. large is better.

You are right I have actually been thinking about that. Maybe the cerf next month.

I got the red bowler today! I am waiting on the metallic black bowler anyday now. I do not need all three. So maybe the black luxe bowler and the cerf tote.

Wickedassin gave great advice and said the metallic luxe is a better looking bag than the red bowler so I decided to keep the luxe bowler in black metallic once it arrives.

Sorry if this is a repeat question, but do you think the cerf tote would fit comfortably over the shoulder if I'm wearing a winter coat (i.e. a wool coat for work)? Really considering getting this bag but the drop looks kind of tight in the pics. Thanks!

I don't know if you'll find it on the card. I don't think Chanel puts the type of leather on their care cards. My Reporter doesn't have it - I checked!

SA's all say different things. I guess it depends on when you purchased your bag. Another thought is to call the 1-800 number on the Chanel website. Maybe someone who works for Chanel can assist.

I'd be curious to know what the fall bags are made of.

I think it depends on your arms/shoulders, your coat, and bag wear. I tried the cerf on at NM. I know most posters indicate it is very comfortable for shoulder wear. I have slightly broad shoulders and was wearing a very lightweight linen jacket...I would say I could wear it on the shoulders, but it would not be comfortable at first... I definitely could not wear it on my shoulders with a winter coat (at least not the first month or two of bag use). If you are petite, it may be easier to shoulder!

That said, I am loving this bag...

Thanks SoCal, I think my shoulders are pretty broad too, plus the extra bulk of my "triceps" might make it a tight fit. I am definitely not petite, hehe. Looks like I should try the bag on to be sure. :smile1:

Definitely report back and let us know what you think! I am sure it will look fabulous!

My receipt from NM says Deerskin Chanel. Does that mean anything or could they have not changed it? I bought it in November of 05.

It sounds like deerskin. Deerskin in thick and soft with a grain that is not really pebbled but textured throughout. It doesn't feel bumpy like pebbled leather.
