Also wanted to clear up some misinformation re: the adoption process in Vietnam. Currently the processing time for adoptions in Vietnam is highly irregular. Most adoption agencies will tell you that the wait can be between 3 months and 14 months. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why Couple A will get their child in 7 months and Couple B will get their child in 13 months. It's a problem that they're urging the Vietnam officials to fix. See

The Adoption Guide: Adoption from Viet Nam
Secondly, Angelina has a huge benefit that normal first time adopting couples don't typically have. A lot of the leg work for her adoption in Vietname was already in place since she's adopted twice before. This means she has an easier time with social workers & obtaining police reports, etc. Also her celebrity status does play a postive role in this. Orphanages have to be very careful about who they adopt to because of the child sex trade industry. An orphanage (through the adoption agency & social workers) have to make sure that Couple A isn't a sex trade "businessman" posing as a happy couple. Because Angelina is so famous worldwide, they've pretty much have a 100% guarantee that Pax isn't going to end up chained up in a basement posing for internet pictures.
This factor (that she's already adopted before) isn't just for Angelina. A lot of couples who adopt one child will find it easier to adopt a second or third child. You've all heard stories of someone going to Russia or China to adopt a child & then getting there only to find out that their child has a brother or sister, and the couple will often times adopt both children to not split up an already established family unit. It's extremely rare for that couple to have to wait the full length of an average first time adoption to bring the brother or sister home.
You also have to take into account that she's adopting an older child. The wait for children that are not newborns is considerably less. Unfortunately to most adopters, once they're pass the baby stage, orphans are considered "damaged goods" so to speak. Orphanages & adoptions agencies will all but bend over backwards to get couples to adopt slightly older children because they know once that child hits the age of 1, the chances of that child being adopted plummet to zero. Once that happens, the orphanage is "stuck" with that child until he or she reaches an age where they can live on their own.
Finally, the issue of money & bribes. It happens. Most agencies will tell you to bring "disposable income & monetary gifts" along with you when you adopt from certain countries (I'm most familar with this in Russia). This happens. Right or wrong, it's how things work in countries with a less than perfect government. A couple I know was told they would have to be in Russia for an entire month for the final stage of the adoption process, however if they wanted to "bring the judge a nice Christmas gift" he might be so grateful that he'd move the court date up. They did just that & were home in a week.
Anyway, I just wanted to clear some things about the adoption process up. I'm a huge advocate of adoption, and I have no problems calling people out who do it illegally (I'm looking at you, Madonna!), and even though I may feel Angelina is a homewrecker (sorry, I do), I feel like I should clear up some of the implications that she bought a child.
