While I understand that they are just trying to protect the buyers from getting duped, there should be the option to forgo authentication if both the buyer and seller agreed to it
This is not an option in some countries since selling fakes is heavily prosecuted and fakes are confiscated on site (cough cough France cough), even if the buyer is willing to take the risk (or actually wants and can only afford a fake). The logic (everywhere, including in the US) is that the victim is not just the duped buyer, but the brand, whether or not the buyer cares about authenticity.

But for the life of me I don't see how it's the platform's business to unilaterally undo a transaction, when buyer & seller still want it, just because of the "condition" of an authentic bag.

The buyer actually contacted me almost immediately as confused as I was. She said they gave her the option to complete the purchase but before she could respond, they notified her that it had been cancelled. I did file an appeal, but the bag’s already been sent back to me so it wouldn’t matter one way or another

I knew eBay had issues authenticating older/vintage designer bags, but this finding makes no sense.
I would just deal directly with the buyer.
And the authenticator who looked at your bag was a jerk.
When I bought a bag that wasn’t a City (as listed) but a First, the lady actually called me and asked me if I still wanted the bag. I said yes and it was shipped to me.

I give up!
How do they NOT know what a Balenciaga bag freaking looks like? :cursing:

Just heard from the buyer — they didn’t even give her the option of accepting the bag and she still wants it! Now what do I do?

I can’t believe this has happened to me TWICE in one week!

Just got it back —
Its EXACTLY how I described it and how it appeared in my photos
Someone I spoke to on the phone described “brown spots” on the bag & tassels and “debris” on the inside (the 3rd photo is the photo I included in my listing)

They also TIED the tassels around the handles, so the ones that weren’t split are now split AND they opened the bag of spare tassels that were TAPED SHUT the way they come from Balenciaga
WTF? :cursing:

Have you reported that back to them? About the tassels? (I always sticky roller the interior of my bags before I sell them).

They’ve eliminated every possible way to contact them, other than chat or a phone call.
Thats how I found out about the “brown spots” on the handles and tassels and “debris” inside the bag (which she described as excessive and more than I showed in my photos — they look exactly the same!). I could request a call back, but the current wait time is more than 15 minutes

I can’t even add to my appeal, which is what I wanted to do - I wanted to add the photos I took today, compared to the photos in my listing

I don't see any stains or brown spots, and quite frankly that bag is cleaner/nicer than 95% of the ones that are on Ebay now, let alone the fact that it's almost 20 years old.
I'd be livid the way they basically de-valued it (split some tassels, opened the spares, and they probably put the alleged brown spots on by dumping it on a dirty floor or touching it with dirty hands).

Calling is pointless. You get someone who’s in the wrong department and says they need to transfer you to the people who do the authentication. The woman I got last week was clearly working from home and sounded like she knew next to nothing about designer bags, let alone Balenciaga. When I asked about the specific damage (the report I received didn’t specify other than “scuffs”, “stains” “uncleanliness” - she looked at the notes (I guess and thats where the “brown spots” came from (she said, “brown spots on the tassels???) and “debris” on the inside. Thats it - they provide not photos of what they describe and make it next to imnpossible to appeal and/or question the outcome.

I don’t think I’ll ever sell another bag for more than $500 on ebay again. I’ll never trust them after this.

It was eBay, believe it or not!
I thought they verify authenticity, not whether or not the condition matched
Regardless, they clearly have people who don’t know what they’re looking at
ebay not only authenticates the item, they also check on the conditions, if too off, they will cancel it, if not too off, they would sent messages to buyer ask if they still want the item(s).

How do I know? Because I buy there frequently. I guess ebay consider your description is too off so they automatically cancelled the sale without even contact the buyer.
